Main Objective of the Job
Provide senior planning and scheduling leadership for the El Pachón Project, ensuring the development and maintenance of high-quality, integrated project schedules that support effective project control, reliable forecasting, transparent reporting, and informed decision-making across all phases of the project lifecycle.
Operating Context
The Lead Project Planner operates within a large-scale copper development located in a remote, high-altitude Andean environment in San Juan, Argentina. The role is embedded within the El Pachón Project team and supports the project from studies through execution.
The position works closely with Project Management, Project Controls, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations, and contractors to ensure schedules accurately reflect scope, execution strategy, site constraints, logistics, and project risks. The role plays a key hands-on function in strengthening schedule quality, integration, and predictability for the project.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification in planning, scheduling, or project management (e.g. AACE, PMI, PRINCE2) desirable.
- Extensive experience in planning and scheduling within mining or heavy industrial project environments.
- Advanced English proficiency; Spanish desirable.
Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience developing, maintaining, and controlling integrated project schedules across study and execution phases.
- Strong capability in Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Experience with resource-loaded schedules, WBS development, schedule logic reviews, and progress measurement.
- Strong understanding of schedule risk analysis, forecasting, and recovery planning techniques.
- Ability to consolidate and manage schedules across complex projects with multiple interfaces and contractors.
- Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Structured, proactive, and improvement-oriented working style.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop, maintain, and control the integrated master schedule for the El Pachón Project in alignment with scope, execution strategy, and contractual requirements.
- Review and challenge schedules from engineering, procurement, construction, and contractors to ensure logic integrity, realism, and quality.
- Support Project Managers with schedule development, progress measurement, forecasting, and recovery planning.
- Ensure consistency, transparency, and reliability of planning and scheduling reporting for the project.
- Support the monthly project reporting cycle, providing schedule performance analysis, trends, and risk visibility.
- Identify schedule risks and opportunities and support the development of mitigation and optimisation strategies.
- Participate in project reviews, providing planning and scheduling expertise and constructive challenge.
- Capture and document lessons learned and promote best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide guidance and coaching to project team members on planning and scheduling methodologies and tools.
- Drive continuous improvement in planning, scheduling, and project controls practices within the project.
