Mutanda Mining (MUMI S.A.R.L) is a mining company whose registered office is at No. 4746, Avenue Laurent Désiré Kabila, Mutoshi District, Manika Commune, City of Kolwezi. Its operating headquarters, the center of its main activities, is located about 42 km from the city of Kolwezi in the province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

MUMI S.A.R.L is an open-pit mining site used for the extraction of copper and cobalt ores. Mutanda Mining has a hydrometallurgical plant and a sulfuric acid manufacturing plant.

Main Objective of the Position

The Program Director will provide executive leadership, direction, and governance for the successful delivery of the Mutanda Mining (MUMI) Expansion Program, targeting the delivery of 6 million tons (6MT) and beyond production strategy.

This role will manage and coordinate the integrated portfolio of intermediate and major capital projects from Feasibility (FS) through to Execution (EXE), including oversight of EPCM delivery. The Program Director acts as the single-point owner for EPCM contracts in-country and ensures alignment between strategic business objectives and project execution.

  • Reports to: Glencore Copper Africa Technical Director
  • Other Key Stakeholders: MUMI CEO, COO, and senior Glencore leadership

    • Roaster Project Manager
    • Exploration Manager
    • Project Manager
    • Underground Project Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, or Business Administration
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Project or Program Management (preferred)
  • PMP, Prince2, or equivalent project management certification
  • Membership in a recognized professional body

 

Required Experience

  • At least 20 years of leadership experience in major capital project delivery, ideally in the mining or metallurgical sectors
  • Proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary project portfolios, EPCM oversight, and executing complex projects in challenging environments
  • Demonstrated experience delivering Feasibility Studies and major capital projects in Africa or similar contexts

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the overall MUMI Expansion Program in line with the 6MT+ strategy and Glencore’s Project Guidelines
  • Provide strategic direction and governance for Feasibility and Execution phases of all key projects
  • Ensure integrated planning, cost control, and execution across project streams (experience in Roaster construction, Underground, Exploration would be ideal)
  • Act as the in-country EPCM Contract Owner, managing relationships and performance to ensure delivery within scope, schedule, and budget
  • Oversee the implementation of fit-for-purpose project systems, controls, and contract frameworks
  • Drive accountability and leadership across all project streams for safety, cost, quality, schedule, and risk
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Glencore corporate, MUMI leadership, and key local/international stakeholders
  • Proactively manage risk, escalate critical issues, and lead resolution strategies
  • Champion HSE excellence and ensure compliance with Glencore’s SafeWork V2 and environmental standards
  • Lead the development of local talent through coaching, knowledge transfer, and capability building
