Mutanda Mining (MUMI S.A.R.L) is a mining company whose registered office is at No. 4746, Avenue Laurent Désiré Kabila, Mutoshi District, Manika Commune, City of Kolwezi. Its operating headquarters, the center of its main activities, is located about 42 km from the city of Kolwezi in the province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

MUMI S.A.R.L is an open-pit mining site used for the extraction of copper and cobalt ores. Mutanda Mining has a hydrometallurgical plant and a sulfuric acid manufacturing plant.

Main objectives of the position

Under the direct supervision of the Process Occupational Hygienist, the Occupational Health Laboratory Technician will be responsible for supporting the Occupational Health and Safety team by measuring and reporting hazards related to the health of personnel. This role includes conducting laboratory measurements and analysis to ensure compliance with health and safety standards and contribute to a safe work environment.

Minimum qualification

• State diploma in chemistry, biology or environmental sciences.
• A university degree would be an advantage. 

·       An occupational health and safety certificate would be an advantage.

• OHTA sampling, instrumentation and measurement certification or equivalent would be an advantage.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in occupational hygiene or industrial laboratory.

 Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),
• Communication interculturelle, verbale et écrite en Français. La maitrise de l’anglais est un atout,
• Excellent data analysis skills,
• Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) will be an asset.
• Knowledge of mining processes and operations.

 Key Responsibilities

• Assist the occupational hygienist in conducting occupational health risk assessments.
• Perform pre-use inspections, calibrations and maintenance of sampling instruments.
• Conduct sampling for health hazards in accordance with the occupational health monitoring program.
• Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with standards.
• Use laboratory equipment, including scales, gravimetric dust pumps, and noise dosimeters.
• Promote occupational health and safety awareness at all levels of staff.
• Conduct training and coaching activities for employees and contractors on exposure risks, controls and consequences.
• Prepare periodic and monthly reports on laboratory and sampling activities.
• Comply with Glencore's health standards, health and safety requirements,
• Comply with Glencore's environmental management requirements and procedures as well as MUMI SARL's environmental policy.
