The Capital Projects Group (CPG) is Glencore’s dedicated organisation for developing and delivering selected major capital projects across its global Commodity Departments. Working within the Life of Asset (LOA) management process, CPG will typically begin supporting selected major projects post concept development when a project is gated to the pre-Feasibility stage (PFS entry). Collaborating deeply with the respective Commodity Department and regional team, CPG is able to shape, develop and execute, major projects from PFS onwards, into Feasibility and then Execution and handover, deploying organisation capability and project management expertise to achieve targeted outcomes safely and with predictable capital productivity.

Operating with agility and deep expertise, CPG will collaborate with each Commodity Department to develop fit for purpose delivery models that leverage and maximise regional capabilities and skills for each project that it either supports or is accountable for. As Glencore’s portfolio and LOA plans evolve, CPG will strive to continue enhance its impact and influence, driving safe, responsible and sustainable project delivery to the business.

 

CPG Portfolio Performance Manager

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, potentially complemented by a project and/or business management qualification(s).
  • Minimum 15 years’ project management experience, ideally holding senior project engineering and/or project controls roles on a project in execution, complemented by experience in asset operations or other related relevant functions.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in project reporting, financial analysis, or performance management in a complex, global environment.
  • Experience in the mining, energy, infrastructure, or commodities sectors highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical, modelling, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of project management software, data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), and advanced Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally in a multicultural, fast-paced environment.

 

Main objective of the role:

The primary objective of this position is to generate and maintain an overview of the progression of the CPG portfolio across the range of commodity integrated and advisory projects that CPG is delivering or supporting. The role provides in-depth analysis and performance insights.

Portfolio progression is classified in four main ways:

  1. Key actions relating to performance or risk mitigation actions on active projects that are visible to the CPG Leadership Team.
  2. Key actions relating to responding to requests from Group or Commodity Departments to support new or emerging activity, standing-up and deploying CPG capability, and tracking the initial results.
  3. Key actions within individual functions or cross-functionally, relating to progressing the development of CPG capability in terms of its operating model, management systems and tools, and organisational capability.
  4. Key actions related to delivering Group requirements and supporting Group Functions’ annual plans and performance cycles.


This position creates and owns the CPG annual plan, collating functional and cross-functional workstreams to continually improve the capability and delivery of capital productivity by the CPG Department, while integrating with and delivering Group requirements.

 

Operating context:

The Capital Projects Group partners with other Glencore Industrial divisions in the delivery of projects from Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility through Execution (construction and commissioning) and handover to Operations.

In Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility, the role of the project delivery team is to confirm and maximise the value of the opportunity by developing scope, engineering, execution plans, and cost estimates for the selected option. During implementation phases, the Project team delivers a functioning business that realises the business case while providing assurance across the portfolio to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with strategic objectives throughout the project lifecycle.


The Portfolio Performance Manager is a member of the CPG Leadership Team and works proactively with the CPG Leadership Team, Project Directors, Project Integrators, and Group Functions.

  • Develop and maintain the CPG annual plan and provide performance reporting and management insights to the CPG Leadership Team.
  • Maintain oversight of the CPG Capital Productivity Framework and drive performance monitoring and continuous improvement initiatives.


2. Progressing the Portfolio

  • Maintain oversight and provide performance insights on key actions relating to progressing current or developing new projects within the CPG portfolio.
