Job Description

 

Under the direct supervision of the Ventilation Supervisor , the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of ventilation systems within underground mining operations. He/she will ensure that safe and breathable air quality is maintained, by monitoring and optimizing ventilation systems to ensure a healthy and safe working environment for employees. In collaboration with the on-site teams, he/she will analyze the performance of the installations, propose improvements and intervene quickly in the event of malfunctions. He/she will also ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations related to underground ventilation.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Ensure ventilation work is safe : Plan, execute and supervise daily ventilation tasks, ensuring safe operations and that all workers wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Perform handover : Prepare handover reports to ensure continuity and clarity of instructions between teams, taking into account instructions from senior management.
  • Monitoring ventilation conditions : Monitor ventilation parameters in the mine in real time, such as temperatures (dry and wet bulb) and gas concentration, to ensure that these measurements meet required safety limits.
  • Manage ventilation systems : Ensure the proper functioning of auxiliary, secondary and main fans, being informed of their status and taking corrective action if necessary .
  • Ensure coordination and communication : Send work instructions to different departments and assign ventilation tasks according to the specific needs of the mine.
  • Manage ventilation personnel and equipment : Supervise and train field personnel in ventilation matters, ensuring ongoing training and ensuring optimal management of ventilation equipment.
  • Perform daily reporting : Prepare and file daily ventilation status reports, using paper and digital formats, and transmit this information to management.
  • Manage management requests : Take charge of urgent requests from senior management, ensuring that necessary actions are taken within the required timeframes and producing signed reports archived in the system.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Degree in mining engineering, with a specialization in ventilation or underground process engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in management and maintenance of underground ventilation systems, preferably in a mining environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety standards applicable to underground ventilation and current regulations.
  • Experience in managing ventilation equipment, including monitoring and maintenance of main and auxiliary fans.
  • handover report procedures and ability to write detailed technical reports.

 

Technical skills.

 

  • Expertise in the analysis and management of ventilation systems, including the measurement of temperatures and gas concentrations (dry/wet) in underground environments.
  • Skills in planning and executing daily ventilation tasks while respecting safety standards.
  • Ability to use ventilation management tools and associated software to monitor and optimize system performance.
  • Skills in ventilation equipment management and training of field teams.
  • Proficiency in technical reporting, both digital and paper, and ability to maintain rigorous data tracking.
