Job description.
Under the direct supervision of the Manager – Underground Fixed Plant Maintenance , the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining the shaft, reel and conveyor systems to a high standard, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and maximizing production time; Providing leadership and operational direction to the team, ensuring that resources, capabilities and skills are aligned with work plans; Identifying, recommending corrections of deviations from the plan; Driving and monitoring continuous improvement focused on safety, operability, reliability, value and cost reduction; Ensuring the transfer of knowledge and skills with emphasis on the development of subordinates.
He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):
• Health, Safety, Environment, Community and Risk: Ensure that safe standard working procedures and systems of work are in place for all activities, ensuring that staff and contractors are trained, equipped and competent to carry out the work whilst ensuring compliance; Identify and address workplace risks and hazards promptly, encouraging the team to raise concerns; Manage change and risk through the application of appropriate assessment and quantification processes to ensure that staff, contractors and the company are not subjected to unnecessary risk; Develop, implement and enforce comprehensive safety protocols for all hoistway, reel and transport activities including access control, personnel movement, materials handling and emergency procedures; Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of shafts, reels, conveyors and associated equipment, identifying and addressing non-conformities, deficiencies and potential hazards; Investigate safety incidents, analyze root causes, implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence; Stay abreast of evolving safety regulations and legislation governing underground mining, ensuring compliance within area of responsibility.
• Budgets, Costs and Governance: Develop and manage high quality budgets and forecasts aligned with the business plan of the area of responsibility, optimizing resource allocation to achieve production targets within budget; Maximize efficiency to minimize production losses, waste, repetitive work and unnecessary expenses; Engage and manage contractors following established procedure to comply with contractor management, procurement and invoicing policies, procedures and processes; Conduct regular audits to identify and correct any deviations from compliance standards; Undertake all activities in compliance with the company code of conduct, anti-corruption and fraud prevention policies, procedures and strategies.
• People, Development and Communication: Demonstrate the highest standards without compromise, supporting and aiming for the company values; Set and communicate clear expectations of responsibilities supported by appropriate key performance indicators, measure performance and results against the indicators and provide feedback; Ensure that team members are adequately trained and experienced to perform their roles, step in to provide training, development and coaching as required; Translate the company's priorities and plan into daily activities, enabling the team to understand how they add value to the business.
• Planning and Scheduling: Ensure that activities under his/her responsibility are planned and scheduled effectively to take into account impacts across the business and not planned in isolation, align maintenance plans with production commitments; Critically review planned maintenance activities and schedules to detect deficiencies and opportunities; Ensure compliance with planned, preventive and predictive maintenance commitments, enabling troubleshooting and improvement work to be carried out without compromising planned work schedules ; Plan the maintenance of classified facilities in accordance with current statutory codes; Establish and implement short interval monitoring practices by effectively analyzing data to identify and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement in terms of efficiency, costs and productivity.
• Maintenance, Operations and Technical Excellence: Define, implement and monitor a risk-based strategy that prioritizes maintenance activities based on equipment and component criticality of safety risks, enable through condition monitoring, reliability engineering, root cause analysis, training, and eliminate repetitive downtime; Build strong relationships with customers and underground mining leadership, understand mining operational needs and commitments and integrate them into maintenance activities; Lead maintenance execution in accordance with maintenance plans and production commitments; Implement, monitor and maintain effective QA/QC practices ; Schedule proactive maintenance for all shaft, reel and haul systems, including regulatory work, preventative maintenance schedules, lubrication plans and wear inspections; Analyze operational and maintenance data to identify trends and implement strategies to extend equipment life and reduce overall maintenance costs .
Job requirements .
Qualifications and experience.
• Have a university degree at level A0 in a relevant field of maintenance (Mechanics, Electromechanics, Electricity, etc.).;
• Have at least 10 years of professional experience in underground mining operations, with proven experience in shaft and reel maintenance;
• Have a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance procedures;
• Hold a job seeker card (ONEM).
Technical skills.
• Possess a thorough understanding of wells, reels and associated maintenance practices;
• Ability to effectively plan, schedule and prioritize tasks to optimize productivity;
• Excellent critical, analytical and creative thinking skills;
• Ability to translate technical ideas into practical solutions;
• A solid understanding of best practices in safe maintenance execution, planning and reliability;
• Having a command of French or Swahili is an asset.
