Job Description

 

The purpose of a Superintendent Projects Civil Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing all civil engineering activities related to capital and infrastructure projects. This includes ensuring that all civil works such as earthworks, foundations, structural elements, roads, drainage, and other infrastructure are designed, executed, and delivered in accordance with project requirements, engineering standards, safety norms, and regulatory compliance. The key objectives include delivering successful projects on time and within budget, ensuring safety and quality, minimizing risks, and driving continuous improvement in civil engineering execution.

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Project Management
    • Develop and manage civil engineering project plans, schedules, and budgets.
    • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams including electrical, mechanical, and construction disciplines.
    • Ensure adherence to project timelines, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Civil Engineering Design & Planning
    • Review and validate civil engineering designs, structural drawings, and technical specifications.
    • Ensure alignment with regulatory standards and project goals.
    • Coordinate with engineering consultants, contractors, and surveyors.
  • Procurement
    • Manage procurement of construction materials and civil works services.
    • Participate in bid preparation and evaluation for civil works packages.
    • Negotiate with suppliers and contractors, ensuring timely delivery and cost control.
  • Construction Oversight
    • Supervise construction activities such as excavation, formwork, rebar installation, concrete pouring, and roadwork.
    • Ensure execution meets design and quality requirements through site inspections and audits.
    • Monitor subcontractors' performance and ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Commissioning and Handover
    • Oversee final inspections, snagging, and handover of completed civil works.
    • Ensure structures meet performance, durability, and safety standards.
  • Safety and Compliance
    • Enforce compliance with safety policies, environmental standards, and civil engineering codes.
    • Conduct safety inspections, toolbox talks, and HSE briefings.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify and assess construction and project risks.
    • Propose and implement corrective and preventative actions to mitigate risks.

 

Job Requirements 


Qualifications and experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing civil engineering projects in mining, heavy industry, or infrastructure development.
  • Strong experience in project execution, site supervision, and civil design review.
  • Proficiency with civil engineering and project management software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, MS Project, or Primavera P6).
  • Familiarity with mining and industrial site requirements is highly desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, Eurocode).
  • Must be fluent in English .
