 Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Dumps Engineer , The main role of the incumbent will be to design, plan and control tailings ponds and ore storage areas, working closely with the mining engineering, operations and geotechnical teams. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that designs comply with approved geometries and that their implementation in the field meets the company's standards and long-term strategies, while ensuring smooth communication of mine plan updates.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Design short-term tailings facilities and associated access roads : This includes creating detailed plans for mine waste storage areas, incorporating topographical, geotechnical and environmental considerations, as well as planning the road infrastructure required for transporting materials.
  • Plan tailings facility scheduling, inspect and align them with the medium-term plan : This includes developing tailings facility utilization schedules, conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance with designs and safety standards, and adjusting plans to meet medium-term production targets.
  • Disseminate mining control data for use by surveyors : This includes the preparation and distribution of accurate and up-to-date technical information (coordinates, elevations, contours) required by survey teams for positioning and monitoring mining activities in the field.
  • Be the primary point of contact for the mining production team regarding tailings facilities, ore storage areas and project planning : This includes proactively communicating with operational teams to answer their questions, resolve tailings and stockpile issues, and coordinate the planning of related initiatives and projects.
  • Ensuring relevant mining production personnel are informed of any changes to the mining plan : This involves clear and effective communication of changes to production plans, tailings designs or operational procedures to ensure all teams are working with the most up-to-date information.
  • Develop and maintain procedures as needed : This includes developing new or updating existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to optimize processes related to tailings management, studies and infrastructure projects.
  • Continually commit to health and safety practices : This includes integrating health and safety principles into all designs and operations, actively participating in safety initiatives, and promoting a safe work culture.
  • Being responsible for the quality of service and performance : This involves ensuring the accuracy, reliability and effectiveness of all deliverables (designs, plans, data), as well as contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and results.
  • Modify and deliver tailings and stockpile designs consistent with mine and site conditions : This includes adapting initial plans to meet geological, geotechnical and operational constraints encountered in the field, and providing viable and safe technical solutions.
  • Collaborate with mining engineering, operations and geotechnical teams : This includes close and ongoing coordination with different departments to ensure designs are optimally integrated into the overall mining process, and to collaboratively resolve technical challenges.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Hold a university degree in mining engineering or a related field.
  • Have at least five (5) years of experience in a hard rock open pit mining environment (copper, cobalt or similar).
  • waste management projects .
  • Fluency in professional technical English (written and oral) preferred.

 

Technical skills.

 

  • Good general knowledge of the mining process , particularly tailings emptying operations.
  • Advanced mastery of mining design software: Surpac , Deswik , Mine 3D , as well as GIS tools ( ArcGIS , QGIS).
  • Strong skills in terrain modeling , 3D design, and technical plan generation.
  • Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) for reporting and communication.
  • mining safety standards and regulatory requirements for waste disposal site management .
