Job description.
Under the direct supervision of the Technical Services Metallurgy Manager, the incombent will be responsible for providing metallurgical support and guidance to optimize operations, with a focus on enhancing technical services related to production planning, research and development, reporting, and quality control at the KTC plant. The role also includes delivering technical support, driving process improvements, and contributing to strategic projects.
He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):
1. Lead Metallurgical Improvement Projects
· Identify improvement areas in processes and technology
· Implement R&D pilot work
· Collaborate with operations, laboratories, and OEMs
· Ensure project deliver and benefits realization
2. Technical Reporting and Review
· Oversee data validation
· Compile monthly technical reports
· Present findings and recommendations.
3. Team Development and Training
· Mentor junior and senior metallurgists
· Facilitate training on software/tools
· Conduct safety and technical workshops (as required).
4. Metallurgical Testwork Supervision
· Coordinate internal and external laboratory work
· Ensure testwork aligns with plant priorities
· Validate test results.
5. Administration and ad-hoc duties
· Support management requests
· Participate in cross functional projects
· Conduct industry benchmarking.
Job requirements.
Qualifications and experience. · Education: Engineering degree (chemical or metallurgy) · Minimum 7 to 9 years of professional experience in the metallurgical industry, with proven expertise in copper and cobalt processing, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or technical leadership role · In-depth knowledge of ore processing and metallurgy processes · Experience in R&D and process development · Competence in designing, supervising and interpreting laboratory and pilot-scale test programs · Proficiency in reconciliation, KPI tracking and use of mass balance tools · Experience in project management (scope definition, budgeting, scheduling and risk assessment for metallurgical projects) · Competence in writing technical reports, business cases and delivering presentations · Understanding of laboratory techniques, sampling standards and quality control protocols. · Knowledge of spreadsheets (computer skills) · Knowledge of accounting principles · Familiarity with regulations and standards applicable to metal accounting and inventory management (e.g., Amira P754) would be a major asset. · Ability to communicate in French and English.
Technical skills. · Minimum computer knowledge (advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio) · Continuous improvement systems · Process simulation techniques and software · Technical project documentation (process design basis, process design criteria, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, control philosophy, project schedule, HAZOP) · Financial evaluation of projects · Strong communication and collaboration skills · Experience in resolving technical issues related to metallurgical processes · Experience working with suppliers and customers
