Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent : Survey UG Mining, the role of the incumbent will be to support the Superintendent : Survey UG Mining in the management of day-to-day surveying activities within underground mining operations. He/she will be responsible for collecting topographic data, implementing mining work and updating mine plans, while ensuring the accuracy of surveys and compliance with safety standards. The position also involves the management of survey equipment and technical support to field teams. The Surveyor will help ensure that the mining work complies with engineering designs and operating plans. In the absence of the Senior Surveyor, he/she may coordinate the underground surveying activities.
He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
- Ensure the implementation of mine development fronts. Ensure the marking of development faces for drilling and advancement operations. This includes the installation of central axes and slope lines in accordance with the technical designs, as well as the verification of the compliance of the work with the mine plans in order to limit overbreakage and guarantee compliance with safety and production standards.
- Carry out the installation of production boreholes. Carry out the installation of boreholes for production operations, particularly in long hole stopping sites. This includes precise positioning of borehole collars, verifying compliance with firing plans and stop notes, and ensuring the accuracy of layouts to optimize mining operations.
- Carry out topographic surveys of underground developments. Carry out surveys and scans of the development galleries in order to collect the data necessary to update the mine plans. This includes the use of specialized measurement equipment to capture production advances, measure excavated volumes, and verify the alignment of jobs against engineering designs.
- Perform scans of mine voids. Capture and analyze data related to mine voids, including drifts, stopes, stopes, and other underground cavities. This includes the use of scanning tools (CMS or other technologies) to obtain accurate data to assess the volumes extracted and to ensure that the work complies with the operating plans.
- Update the topographic plans of the mine. Ensure the creation, updating and maintenance of the mine's topographic plans. This includes processing and integrating data collected in the field into mine modeling and design software to maintain accurate and up-to-date plans for operations and planning teams.
- Ensure the processing and management of topographic data. Process, analyze and archive data from topographic surveys and scans. This includes the use of specialized software for 3D modeling and technical reporting, as well as the secure transfer of data into the mine's information management systems.
- Install and maintain topographic control stations. Install and maintain topographic stations used for the underground control network. This includes drilling and installing wall markers, verifying their stability, and integrating them into the reference network to ensure accurate surveys and layouts.
- Manage and maintain survey equipment. Ensure the proper use, maintenance and availability of topographic instruments such as total stations, GPS, scanners or other specialized equipment. This includes regularly checking that equipment is working properly and that operating and calibration procedures are followed.
- Provide technical and operational support to field teams. Assist topographic technicians and assistants in the execution of survey and layout activities. This includes guiding teams, clarifying tasks, resolving technical issues encountered in the field, and promoting a safe and efficient work environment.
- Contribute to meeting security and compliance standards. Ensure that safety standards, standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements are applied in the performance of survey activities. This includes identifying risks, communicating with operational teams, and actively participating in initiatives to improve safety in underground mining operations.
