Job Description
This role will develop and implement medium-term mine plans for underground operations ensuring safe and efficient mining practices. Most importantly this role will develop and mentor Junior Engineers to Planning/Design Engineers
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):
- Lead the Medium-term technical team to develop and optimize underground mine plans, including stope designs, level layouts, and mining schedules, considering geological factors, geotechnical conditions, logistics and ventilation limitations.
- Optimise and maintain rolling Medium-term plans up to 24 months to deliver business goals and align the short-term to the medium and strategic plan.
- Optimise and incorporate capital projects and major mine infrastructure into the mine plan to ensure these are delivered timeously to manage planned production.
- Develop cost models, analyze operational data, and identify opportunities to optimize the mine plan and reduce costs or improve operational productivities.
- Identify, rectify or escalate any potential risks to the medium term mine schedule and LOA to ensure there are minimal disruptions to operations.
- Collaborate with geologists, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and other stakeholders to gather data, share information, and ensure alignment on business strategies.
- Provide technical expertise, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers, to manage their professional development.
- Ensure mine plans comply with the Glencore Fatal Hazard Protocols and relevant legislation.
- Sets an example as a Safety leader.
- Develops the goals and objectives for direct reports and monitors and assesses their performance.

Job Requirements
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering.
- Over 10 years’ experience in underground mine operations, mine planning, including design, scheduling, and production optimization.
- Proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik Ops, Deswik CAD and Deswik Sched.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven experience in developing Junior Engineers
- Experience with Ore Reserves estimation and JORC Code reporting in massive orebodies will be an asset.
