Job description.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Metallurgy manager, the Superintendent Metallurgy – Flotation, Reagents and Hydraulic backfill is responsible to assess operational performance daily with the Metallurgy Team and ensure all processes are running optimal to ensure maximum production and recovery at the correct product quality. Communicate with operation’s Superintendent on all key parameters as per the set strategy for orientation and embedding of the operational strategies.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Manage the review and generation of technical and standard operating procedures
  • Manage Metallurgy Projects, provide supervisory leadership to metallurgical test work, results analysis and presentation of findings.
  • Assess recommendations and manage implementation in the processing plant
  • Identify and manage key stakeholders to achieve technical goals
  • Liaise with departmental and other stakeholders to clarify requirements, including assessing implementation, feasibility and delivery to optimize process parameters and small projects execution.
  • Liaise with metallurgy team, operations and external specialists to Compose technical reports and internal / external memos
  • Participate actively in the life of asset modeling
  • Perform metal balances and identify sources of bias / inaccuracy
  • Review metal accounting practices and systems and assist with improvements
  • Provide coaching and training to processing specialist and metallurgists
  • Manage reporting for project activities including schedule, budgets, and cost tracking.
  • Oversee all project work in area of responsibility and setting of appropriate standards and policies.
  • Engagement of consultants for metallurgical works including preparation of scopes, tendering, assessment, and award processes
  • Management of consultant activities on a day-to-day basis
  • Analysis of business cases for process plant investment
  • Support the development of new plant sections from Concept through to Feasibility Studies
  • Ensure discipline in the Metallurgy Team

 

 

Job requirements.

 

Qualifications and experience.

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering degree, Chemical or Metallurgical.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience at a managerial level in mineral processing and particularly in ore beneficiation.
  • Experienced in comminution and flotation concentrator.
  • Background or experience in continuous improvement and change process
  • Good understanding of flotation fundamentals

 

 

Technical skills.

 

  • Domain knowledge of mining and a technical background of innovation, commercial awareness, organisation, interpersonal skills, teamworking and communication skills.
  • Capability to working with multidisciplinary teams of different cultural backgrounds and skillsets.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team, a diplomat and resilience will also be essential attributes to the role
  • Multi-tasking and excellent management of personal time and priorities is essential.
  • Demonstrated, well-developed judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to promote vision and play a key role in achieving process operation satisfaction
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that work effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Various knowledge of Microsoft Office products and metallurgical simulation software.
