Job Description

 

The Superintendent – Maintenance Mobile Fleet demonstrates and instills an overriding commitment to health and safety, operational discipline, risk management, and cost performance. The role leads, develops, and sustains a high-performance culture within the Mobile Fleet Maintenance section, supported by effective systems, standards, and procedures. It ensures maintenance execution excellence, cost discipline, and continuous improvement to safely deliver on budget and life-of-asset commitments for the surface mobile mining fleet.

 


He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Health, Safety, Environment, Community & Risk
    • Champion the proactive management of high-risk tasks, critical controls, and enterprise risks for the Mobile Fleet.
    • Define and communicate health and safety expectations aligned with industry best practices.
    • Enable and support the safety leadership program within the Mobile Fleet Maintenance section.
    • Drive contractor safety management and engagement.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant national regulations, environmental standards, and community obligations.

 

  • Budgets, Cost & Governance
    • Plan and execute the maintenance budget and strategy in line with asset lifecycle and fleet availability commitments.
    • Collaborate with HME Planning & Reliability to define budgets and forecasts.
    • Manage operational and capital costs to budget and forecast.
    • Maintain strict cost discipline through monthly and mid-month financial reviews.
    • Comply with procurement, contractor management, and invoice processes in line with company policies.

 

  • Leadership, People, Development & Communication
    • Lead, coach, and mentor the Mobile Fleet maintenance team to understand and deliver on plans and commitments.
    • Promote a high-performance culture and succession planning.
    • Translate maintenance strategies into day-to-day actions with clear accountabilities and KPIs.
    • Ensure team competencies, skills gaps, and training plans are identified and addressed.
    • Promote diversity, inclusion, and ethical behavior within the team.

 

  • Planning & Scheduling
    • Collaborate with HME Planning & Reliability to standardize equipment maintenance schedules and preventive maintenance tasks.
    • Review planned maintenance activities for deficiencies and mitigate execution risks.
    • Drive compliance with planned, predictive, and preventive maintenance schedules.
    • Ensure SAP is deployed effectively for work order management, parts, labor, and materials allocation.

 

  • Operational & Technical Excellence
    • Ensure required skills, equipment, tools, and materials are available for maintenance execution.
    • Maintain competency registers, training programs, and technical development for staff.
    • Support asset maintenance improvement plans and ensure quality assurance for fleet maintenance.
    • Implement preventive maintenance programs and monitor execution against KPIs.
    • Build strong relationships with operations leadership to align maintenance execution with operational requirements.
    • Ensure safe and efficient fuel, lubrication, contamination, hose, and tire management practices.

 

  • Mobile Fleet Maintenance
    • Sustain and enable surface mining operations through focused maintenance solutions.
    • Drive compliance with preventive maintenance schedules and ensure fleet availability aligns with operational criticality.
    • Apply condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and contamination control strategies.
    • Lead workshops and maintenance facilities, ensuring safe and effective operations.

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience

 

  • Proven experience in mobile fleet maintenance for mechanized underground mining fleet
  • Subject matter expertise in heavy mining equipment maintenance including Sandvik Intelligent fleet, Macleans, Normet and CAT equipment.
  • Proficiency in SAP and maintenance management systems.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop teams.
  • Minimum 10 years of maintenance experience in the mining or heavy industrial sector, including at least 5 years in a maintenance leadership role.
