Job Description

 

 

The Superintendent Grade Control and Reconciliation plays a critical role in the accuracy and efficiency of 3D geological models and grade control reconciliation processes within the open pit mineral resource development department. This position is responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of all geological models, ensuring the reconciliation of ore production against expectations, and implementing best practices for data management and quality assurance. The superintendent will lead a team dedicated to optimizing ore recovery and minimizing dilution while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.


He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Develop and maintain 3D short and mid-term ore models in alignment with mining operations.
  • Utilize advanced modeling software to create and update the 3D geological models that reflect current data.
  • Interpret geological structures and their implications for ore formation and distribution.
  • Apply geostatistical methods to ensure accurate and reliable resource estimates.
  • Prepare detailed reports on geological findings, resource estimates, and modeling activities for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicate geological findings and model updates to stakeholders, including management and site personnel.
  • Contribute to technical presentations and documentation for project evaluations and regulatory submissions.
  • Oversee the reconciliation process between ore mined and modeled resources, identifying discrepancies and implementing corrective actions.
  • Work with mining engineers to adjust models based on actual mining outcomes and improve future predictions.
  • Collaborate with the mining team to ensure that ore recovery strategies are effectively integrated into operational plans.
  • Supervise the collection and validation of geological data, ensuring data integrity and compliance with QA/QC protocols.
  • Generate reports and documentation related to ore reconciliation and geological modeling for management review.
  • Prepare resource reports in compliance with industry standards (e.g., JORC or NI 43-101).
  • Conduct regular audits of modeling processes and results to promote continuous improvement.
  • Train and mentor team members on best practices in ore modeling and reconciliation methodologies.
  • Foster collaboration with other departments to ensure alignment of resource development objectives.
  • Stay updated on the latest geological modeling techniques and software advancements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in data collection, modeling, and reporting.
  • Establish an ongoing update of all geological grade control model procedures and work instructions.

 

  • Collabroation and Integration 
    • Work closely with the mine planning and operations teams to ensure that geological models are accurately represented in mining plans.
    • Engage with external consultants and contractors to enhance modeling practices and resource estimation.
    • Engage with contractors, to ensure contractual obligations are adhered to.
    • Collaborate with and align with resource geologists on and off site to provide data and ensure alignment to JORC or other required standards.
    • Collaborate with environmental and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with all legal and environmental standards.
  • Supervisory Responsability 
    • Direct supervision of the Ore Modeling and Reconciliation team, including geologists and technicians.
    • Set goals and objectives for direct reports and monitor their performance.
    • Ensure alignment of departmental goals with overall company objectives.
    • Provide guidance and support to team members to enhance productivity and professional development.
    • Ensure deadlines are met.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Mining Engineering or Earth Sciences from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in ore modeling, reconciliation, and geological data management in a large open pit mining environment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership roles within the mining industry.
  • Must be proficient in geological modeling software (Datamine Studio RM, Ore Controller, Centric, Leapfrog) and reconciliation tools.
  • Advanced excel reporting and Power BI use is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and data validation methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Proactiveness to be able to anticipate and manage project needs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
  • Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, integrity, resilience and commitment to pursue organizational goals in a changing environment.
