The Technical Support Specialist – Loading and Transportation will be responsible for strengthening the skills of underground loading and hauling mine teams to operate safely and efficiently in accordance with required operational standards. Expected results include better equipment utilization, reduced downtime, optimization of loading and transport cycles, and compliance with safety and productivity indicators. This role is also responsible for the implementation of QA/QC standards to ensure a culture of continuous improvement within the Loading and Transportation department.
He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for safety and take a proactive stance to ensure that safety always remains the priority in underground operations.
- Have a solid knowledge of underground mining practices, in particular loading and transport operations with the corresponding heavy machinery; Mining tippers and loaders and more particularly expertise in the safe layout and management of the loading of open stops) requiring remote control loading (remote bogging).
- Provide training and mentoring to loading and transport operators as well as dumpsters, in accordance with KCC safety standards.
- Training of operators on safe loading and transport practices and high operational productivity.
- Supervision of interns during shifts.
- Support for minor inspections and operational controls of loading and transport equipment.
- Conducting continuous improvement initiatives in productivity, safety and equipment utilization.
- Provide immediate coaching, guidance and supervision to the loading and transport teams during training sessions.
- Track and optimize loading and transportation cycles to maximize productivity, equipment life, and energy efficiency.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure operators are properly performing basic maintenance and pre-operational inspections and reducing operational damage to equipment.
- Communicate effectively with mine planning engineers, geotechnical engineers, and supervisors to align transportation routes and loading strategies.
- Train operators in the organization and planning of shifts, the achievement of production objectives and the maintenance of high performance standards.
- Conduct competency assessments and prepare operational improvement plans for loading and transportation operators.
- Support the implementation of safety and quality initiatives within the team.
- Ensure that all activities comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Safe Work Instructions at all times.
