Job Description 

 

 

Reporting to the Hydrogeology Superintendent, the Senior Technical Advisor – Hydrogeology is responsible for the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of mine hydrogeology solutions, data analysis, and the execution of minor projects aimed at managing risks and promoting excellence in underground mining production and development. 

 

The Senior Technical Advisor provides essential support to underground and technical teams specialized in hydrogeology, ensuring that resources, capabilities, and competencies are aligned with work plans. This role involves delivering operational support through monitoring, inspections, and coordination of hydrogeological studies to drive continuous improvement in hydrogeological practices. 

 

The advisor performs hydrogeological analyses to ensure the stability of mining methods, while leading initiatives focused on safe production, value creation, and cost reduction. In addition, the Senior Technical Advisor oversees the reporting and documentation of hydrogeological performance, identifying and correcting deviations from plans and processes, and recommending necessary adjustments. 

 

He/she drives and monitors continuous improvement efforts focused on safety, operability, reliability, value creation, and cost efficiency. Furthermore, the advisor promotes knowledge transfer and skills development, with a strong focus on building the capabilities of team members and collaborators. 

 

In this key role, the Senior Technical Advisor is committed to improving overall mine performance while promoting a culture of safety and excellence. 

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsabilities (non-exhaustives) :   

 

 

  • Provide key technical support to mining operations for planning underground mine dewatering systems
  • Develop short-, medium-, and long-term dewatering strategies and collaborate with mining operations and planning teams for implementation
  • Establish and maintain a monitoring network to collect critical data on groundwater flow rates, levels, and pressures in the underground mine
  • Develop a data collection strategy to ensure continuous improvement of conceptual and numerical hydrogeological models, with high accuracy and relevance
  • Critically analyze and interpret numerical models provided by consultants and run scenarios
  • Develop the capabilities of national staff within the hydrogeology department and implement formal and informal training programs to strengthen technical skills and understanding
  • Work closely with various departments to support Mining, Environmental, and Project teams on water-related issues and studies
  • Collaborate with consultants by providing additional technical support in the development of mine hydrogeological models
  • Identify cost and procedural improvement opportunities in hydrogeology and dewatering, and actively promote continuous improvement initiatives

 

 

Job Requirements 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Degree in hydrogeology, geology, mining engineering, or civil engineering from a recognized university
  • Proven ability to supervise, train, and develop a hydrogeology team 
  • Strong technical expertise and operational support capability in underground hydrogeological engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mine hydrogeology, with international exposure in hard rock metalliferous mining

 

 

Compétences techniques 

 

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and creative problem-solving abilities 
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into practical solutions 
  • Good knowledge of best practices in safe underground mining production engineering 
  • International work experience is an advantage
