Job description.

 

 

Under the direct supervision of the Asset Protection Sector Superintendent, The role of the incumbent will be to coordinate, direct and ensure the effectiveness of security operations in a mining environment. He /She will ensure the 24/7 protection of personnel, assets, infrastructure and the company's reputation by applying operational leadership, risk mitigation strategies and enforcement measures. He/She will also act as a liaison between the security department, site contractors and other internal departments.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

•    Supervise and manage security teams, ensuring discipline, attendance and compliance with work schedules.
•    Develop and implement a daily security action plan to prevent unauthorized access by illegal artisanal miners to operational areas, mine shafts, factories and other sensitive facilities.
•    Contribute to the continuous improvement of artisanal mining risk mitigation strategies through after-action analyses and intelligence sharing.
•    Lead field operations including inspections, patrols, searches (people, vehicles, goods) and high-risk interventions.
•    Ensure that all arrests of illegal artisanal miners are carried out in full compliance with national laws, company procedures and international human rights standards.
•    Work closely with the Legal Department, law enforcement officials, and human rights officers, as appropriate, to meet the company's ethical and legal obligations.
•    Respond quickly to security incidents (theft, intrusion, sabotage, violence) and take containment measures.
•    Enforce strict compliance with internal security protocols, national laws and human rights standards.
•    Monitor pre-blast preparations, including blast zone security, access control, evacuation confirmation, and communication preparation.
•    Act as a key point of contact between security and other departments (HR, logistics, maintenance, IT, legal).
•    Monitor and update databases and analysis tools for crime mapping, statistics and intelligence.
•    Oversee the proper handling, documentation and security of all seized items, including the completion and signing of official seizure reports (PV de seizure) in accordance with legal procedures.

 


Job requirements .


Qualifications and experience.

 

•    Hold a university degree in law, criminology, or a related field. 
•    Have at least 5 years of experience in security operations, law enforcement or military.
•    Have a certification as a Sworn Judicial Police Officer (OPJ).
•    Have knowledge of criminal law and criminal procedure.
•    Have experience working in high-risk environments, ideally in mining or heavy industry
•    Fluent in French, English, Swahili and other local languages.

 

Technical skills.

 

•    Good understanding of security operations in high-risk, industrial or mining environments.
•    Thorough knowledge of national laws, criminal procedure and regulations relating to the use of force.
•    Good knowledge of blasting protocols, explosives handling procedures and security perimeter management.
•    Excellent skills in incident response management, crime scene preservation and evidence chain of custody.
•    Proficiency in the use of security technology systems:
    Video surveillance systems, access control, biometric identification, vehicle scanners.
    Security Management Platforms ( CIIMS ).
    Data analysis tools, spreadsheets and crime mapping software.
