Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.
As an industrial mining company, we provide safe workplaces and support the sustainable development of the local economy. We maintain a constructive and open dialogue with the communities that host us, as well as with the provincial and national government.
Under the supervision of the OP Grade Control and Reconciliation Superintendent, the role of the incumbent will be to develop and manage the grade control estimation processes in order to produce reliable block models and extraction plans adapted to mining operations. He/she will transform geological and analytical data into actionable information to optimize ore recovery and reduce dilution. The position involves strong collaboration with the geology, mine planning, processing and operations teams. He/she will also be responsible for the blending reconciliation and optimization processes. Finally, he/she will contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating methods and the automation of workflows.
He/She will have, among others, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):
- Coordinate the complete grade control estimation process. This includes managing the entire workflow from the collection of drilling and sampling data to the production of validated block models and operational extraction plans.
- Build and validate block models. This includes developing, updating, and controlling the quality of block models, ensuring their geological consistency, and ensuring version control.
- Interpret geological data and structure domains. This includes analyzing and mapping geological structures, defining consistent domains, and creating wireframes that meet geological and QA/QC standards.
- Define and apply estimation methods. This includes selecting and applying appropriate estimation techniques (compositing, variography, kriging, IDW, etc.) based on geological characteristics and production needs.
- Develop dig plans. This includes producing detailed plans including selective extraction zones, no-go zones and operational polygons adapted to the constraints of the terrain and processing.
- Lead the reconciliation process. This includes designing and executing reconciliation processes, comparing estimated data to actual production data, analyzing variances, and recommending corrective actions.
- Optimize blending and factory feeding. This includes developing blending plans, simulating different scenarios and adjusting strategies to meet the plant's grade and tonnage requirements.
- Automate modeling and reporting processes. This includes developing and maintaining automated scripts, macros, and tools (Datamine, Python, VBA, etc.) to improve process efficiency, reliability, and traceability.
- Ensure data quality and validation. This includes monitoring drilling, sampling, and assay (QA/QC) data, verifying its integrity, and coordinating corrective actions in the event of anomalies.
- Provide technical support and transfer of expertise. This includes mentoring grade control geologists, providing training on estimation methods, software tools and interpretation of results.
