Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Environmental Governance, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and executing environmental governance processes. This role involves implementing and maintaining environmental systems, while ensuring compliance and permitting requirements are met. The incumbent will also be responsible for grievance management and stakeholder engagement, ensuring operations comply with company policy, legal obligations, and certification standards.


He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

•    Implement and maintain the Environmental Management System (EMS): This includes supporting the establishment and regular updates of KCC's EMS, ensuring it is aligned with industry best practices such as ISO 14001: 2015. The post holder is responsible for ensuring that environmental procedures are followed by all departments and coordinating the integration of EMS requirements into operational routines;
•    Ensuring regulatory compliance and permits: This includes monitoring environmental permits and legal obligations under DRC regulations. The role involves maintaining an up-to-date permit tracking system, preparing permit applications, and ensuring compliance conditions are met ;
•    Monitoring and reporting compliance: This includes gathering, validating and compiling data for monthly and annual environmental compliance registers and reports. This includes preparing contributions for audits and providing accurate and up-to-date data for environmental tax calculations (TERA and TAPO);
•    Implement governance systems: This includes implementing procedures related to industry best practices, such as those required by Copper Mark and ICMM certifications, as well as Glencore 's internal governance frameworks . The incumbent will also support internal governance reviews and prepare the necessary documentation for audits;
•    Manage stakeholder engagement and complaints: This includes maintaining a detailed record of all environmental complaints. The position holder is required to support complaint investigations, monitor the implementation of corrective actions and contribute to the stakeholder engagement plan;
•    Coordinate projects and consultants: This includes monitoring the progress of consultants and contractors carrying out projects related to environmental governance. This will ensure that their deliverables meet established quality and timeline expectations;
•    Organize training and capacity building: This includes organizing and delivering internal awareness sessions on topics such as environmental governance, permits, and systems. The incumbent will act as a mentor to junior team members and encourage environmental responsibility across all departments of the company. 


Job requirements .


Qualifications and experience.

 

•    Hold a University Diploma in sustainable development, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, natural resource management or a related discipline;
•    Have at least 5 years of experience in roles related to environmental compliance, permitting or governance, preferably in the mining or industrial sectors;
•    Knowledge of DRC environmental laws and permitting frameworks. Working knowledge of international standards such as ISO 14001, IFC Performance Standards and Copper Mark certification is a strong asset.

 

Technical skills.
