job description
Under the direct supervision of the Metals Accounting Superintendent, the incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and controlling daily metals accounting activities, ensuring the collection, validation, reconciliation and production of accurate data reports in support of the Metals Accounting Superintendent.He/She ensures the operational link between production, laboratory, systems and reporting, guaranteeing consistency, discipline and compliance of metal accounting processes.
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
• Control and reconcile metals accounting: This includes validating daily accounting data relating to metals (production, analysis and stocks), performing first-level reconciliations of metals and materials, and identifying sampling, analysis and measurement biases.
• Ensure the quality of data, instruments and laboratories: This includes collaboration with the laboratory regarding analyses, biases and inconsistencies, liaison with instrumentation teams for the handling of measurement deviations and ensuring the integrity of instruments and metal accounting systems.
• Coordinate stock and inventory management: This includes coordinating inventories of finished goods and work-in-progress stock, supporting the reconciliation of physical and accounting stock, and preparing the necessary elements for audits and month-end closings.
• Supervise and mentor the team: This includes supervising and mentoring the specialized metals accounting officers, allocating work, monitoring its execution, strengthening procedures, and promoting a safe and disciplined work culture.
• Prepare reports and contribute to continuous improvement: This includes preparing consolidated reports for review by the Superintendent, conducting preliminary performance analyses, and reporting persistent trends of abnormal deviations in key performance indicators for critical processes to the metallurgy team to enable necessary investigations. It also includes supporting metallurgical research through data analysis and maintaining strict record-keeping, documentation, and filing practices.
Job requirements
Qualifications and experience
• Have a university degree (Bachelor's) in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Data Science, Data Analysis, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or in a related field;
• Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in metals accounting or industrial metallurgy;
• Have a solid background in Microsoft Excel (advanced level) as well as data analysis and reconciliation tools.
Technical skills.
• Have a thorough knowledge of metallurgical processes and metal balances;
• Possess strong skills in data validation and reconciliation;
• Have a good knowledge of metallurgical processes and sampling principles;
• To have knowledge of the principles of the AMIRA Code;
• Possess good report writing skills.
