Job Description
Reporting directly to the Principal Geologist - Operations, the incumbent will be responsible for geological modeling, resource estimation and associated reporting. In this strategic role, he/she will support resource optimization, mine planning and operational excellence, ensuring sustainable mineral extraction practices .
He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):
- Carry out and supervise detailed geological modelling and mineral resource estimation in accordance with international standards (JORC, NI43-101).
- Maintain robust geological data management systems, ensuring accuracy, integrity and compliance with regulatory standards, and ensure the rigorous implementation and maintenance of database quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes.
- Provide critical geological analyses and inputs for strategic mining planning and operational decision making.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives in geological practices, methodologies and software applications.
- Act as the subject matter expert and primary contact for resource estimation issues with internal and external stakeholders, and collaborate with external auditors for the independent verification of geological data and resource estimates.
- Supervise, mentor and develop a team of geologists, promoting professional growth and operational efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental and community standards.
- Carry out grade control and production balance for the KOV open pit mine, conduct and supervise resource estimation specifically for the Mutanda mine, undertake geometallurgical characterization and estimation activities, and carry out prospectivity modeling of exploration targets.
Job Requirements
- Have a degree in Geology or Geological Engineering; postgraduate studies preferred.
- Have a minimum of 10 years of experience in geological resource estimation within the copper or base metals mining industry.
- Solid experience and understanding of international mining reporting standards (JORC, NI43-101).
- English proficiency (required);
Technical skills.
- Proficiency in geological modeling software such as Leapfrog , Datamine , Surpac or Vulcan.
- Excellent ability to interpret and analyze complex geological data.
- Advanced skills in mineral resource estimation and geostatistics.
- In-depth knowledge of geochemical sampling and analysis techniques.
