Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Job description.

 

 

Reporting to Superintendent – Technical Services & Strategic Projects KTC, the incumbent will be responsible for providing advanced metallurgical support focused on continuous improvement, process optimization and technical innovation at the KTC plant.

 

 

His/Her essential functions will include, among others (non-exhaustive list):

 

 

1.    Project management for metallurgical improvement:


•    Identify opportunities for improvement, develop business cases, define the scope and execute approved improvement projects;

•    Identify and evaluate opportunities for process and technology improvement;
•    Develop case studies and implement pilot-scale research and development (R&D) projects;
•    Collaborating with plant operations, engineering teams and OEM suppliers;

•    Ensure timely execution, monitoring of benefits and closure of initiatives;
•    Plan and coordinate the different phases of projects and ensure that deadlines are met;

 

2.    Coordination of metallurgical tests:


•    Plan, coordinate and supervise metallurgical testing programs in internal and external laboratories;
•    Ensure that testing is aligned with factory priorities;

•    Examine and validate the results to ensure their consistency and reliability.

 

3.    Technical analysis and reports:


•    Supervise the validation and analysis of operational data;
•    Write, interpret and present technical reports with concrete recommendations;

•    Support metal reconciliation activities and mass balance monitoring.

 

4.    Strategic support and innovation:


•    Contribute to strategic projects focusing on process efficiency, improved recovery rates and technological innovations;
•    Integrate industry innovations and best practices into factory systems and procedures;

•    Participate in cross-functional benchmarking exercises and strategic planning.

 

5.    Skills development and capacity building:


•    Mentoring junior metallurgists to strengthen technical skills;
•    Facilitate training workshops on technical tools, metallurgical software and safety practices;

•    Promote a culture of continuous learning and accountability for processes.

 

6.    Administrative tasks and other occasional responsibilities:


•    Support additional requests from management;
•    Ensure that initiatives are aligned with the overall objectives of Technical Services.

 

 

Job requirements 

 

Qualifications and experience

 

•    University degree in metallurgy or chemical engineering;
•    Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the metallurgical industry, with proven expertise in copper and cobalt ore processing and project management; experience in technical leadership is an asset;
•    Mastery of ore processing methods and metallurgical processes;

•    Proven expertise in process design, mass balances, reconciliation and test program management;
•    Solid knowledge of R&D methodologies, process development, quality control and continuous improvement;
•    Experience in writing technical reports, business cases and presentations;

•    Knowledge of regulations and standards in metal accounting and inventory management (e.g., Amira P754) is an asset;
•    Basic knowledge of accounting;
•    Fluency in French and English (spoken and written) is preferred.

 

 

Technical skills.

 

•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio);
•    Ability to use process simulation software and interpret design documents (PFD, P&ID);
•    Expertise in technical documentation, scope definition, planning and HAZOP;

•    Strong communication and problem-solving skills;
•    Experience working with internal stakeholders, suppliers and contractors.
