Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Projects Engineering Manager, the Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for managing mechanical engineering aspects of capital and investment projects, and for providing technical support to project managers throughout project development and execution.
Key objectives include ensuring mechanical engineering deliverables are accurate, compliant with standards, and aligned with project requirements while supporting successful project delivery across the engineering lifecycle.
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities:
- Project Management & Engineering Support
- Prepare, justify, and manage mechanical engineering projects from concept through execution.
- Provide technical support to multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring all mechanical engineering requirements are correctly developed and implemented.
- Develop detailed mechanical engineering scopes of work in alignment with project portfolio needs.
- Ensure the scope of mechanical engineering work meets design requirements and adheres to company and project standards.
- Coordinate and participate in project meetings with engineering consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Design Review & Technical Documentation
- Evaluate contractor and consultant bids to ensure alignment with mechanical engineering design requirements.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and professional presentation of all project documents and reports.
- Respond promptly to contractor and consultant queries regarding mechanical engineering requirements.
- Review and validate mechanical design deliverables, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and engineering best practices.
- Stakeholder & Contractor Management
- Organize and facilitate meetings between KCC Projects teams and mechanical engineering contractors.
- Support project managers in communicating technical expectations and addressing design or execution challenges.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure mechanical engineering deliverables align with project objectives.
- Project Controls & Compliance
- Ensure mechanical engineering work complies with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and the Glencore project framework.
- Support project controls activities, including planning, progress tracking, and reporting.
- Ensure documentation is prepared and maintained according to project requirements and governance standards.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in mechanical engineering within mining, industrial, or heavy engineering environments.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop technical work packages and scopes of work.
- Good understanding of project controls, including planning and progress measurement.
- Proficiency with project planning software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6).
Attitude / Behavior
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and precision.
- Understanding of the full project lifecycle—from scoping studies and feasibility through execution.
- Strong critical thinking capabilities and the ability to analyze and understand project challenges.
