Job description

 

As a member of the Risk and Insurance team, the position holder provides support to assets as well as guidance in enterprise risk management (ERM). In carrying out their duties, they must place particular emphasis on developing and implementing a regional engagement and change management strategy, as well as supporting regional systems and processes.

 

The main challenges of the role lie in implementing ERM standards, processes, systems, and tools, while taking into account the current maturity level of the assets and the various local legislations. This position is essential for optimizing the efficiency, profitability, and reliability of the supply chain within the dynamic environment of the mining industry.

 

His/Her responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

 

1. Risk Management 

  • Lead the implementation of the enterprise risk management (ERM) standard at the asset level.
  • Coordinate risk management activities on behalf of the assets.
  • Coordinate risk reporting at the asset level as well as key risk management routines.
  • Contribute to the development of training and engagement materials, and lead/coordinate their deployment.
  • Provide guidance and support to asset teams, from management to frontline operators, on risk management activities.
  • Coordinate the implementation at the asset level of ERM standards, processes, systems, and tools, including the global fatal hazard program and global risk reporting.
  • Build relationships with regional and asset leaders, as well as risk and control owners, and strengthen accountability for risk management through Risk and Insurance committee routines.
  • Lead and/or participate in ongoing assurance activities to assess the effectiveness of operational risk management.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with regional and asset leadership teams within the division.
  • Collaborate with operations to foster an effective and constructive culture based on the company’s values, philosophy, and principles, as well as a culture of accountability.

 

2. Compliance and Governance 

  • Ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Monitor legislative developments.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits.
  • Contribute to the improvement of systems (quality, safety, environment).

 

3. Monitoring, Reporting, and Performance 

  • Track risk-related performance indicators.
  • Develop dashboards and reports.
  • Monitor the implementation of action plans.

 

4. Support, Training, and Communication 

  • Train and raise awareness among teams on best practices.
  • Support operations teams in risk management.
  • Promote a risk management culture.
  • Communicate key issues to stakeholders.
  • Advise management on risk exposures.

 

 

 

Job requirements

 

Qualifications and experience

  • Hold at least a university degree in Mining Engineering, Risk Management, or an equivalent field.
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in Risk Management, Engineering, and/or operations in the resources or energy sector, in roles of increasing responsibility, with proven experience in enterprise and/or operational risk management.

 

Technical skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and understandable format.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience in process safety management, copper mining and processing operations, and/or the implementation of risk management systems and processes would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in English required (knowledge of French would be an advantage).
  • Ability to work autonomously across all levels and functions of the organization, with a strong capacity to learn new concepts.
