Job Description

 

Reporting directly to the Projects management  & controle Manager, the incumbent will be responsible provide technical support to the engineering team and project leads for all quantity surveying aspects of projects. Complete support service is to be provided to the commercial aspects of project agreements, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements as required by the Projects Commercial Manager and Team leads. Responsibility includes the full review of contract Scope of Work and BOQ development and the estimates related to various activities within the project agreements. Commercial interim and final certificate validation and agreement is the key job requirements while the management of all contract costs is a key support requirement for Project Controls. Includes budget estimations, cost verification, cash flow forecasting, invoice verification and acceptance.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):

 

 

Cost Estimating & Budgeting

• Prepare detailed project cost estimates and budgets for civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and piping (CSMEP) works.

• Monitor project expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.

• Provide input into investment justification and project feasibility studies.

 

Contract Administration

• Assist in drafting, reviewing, and finalizing procurement packages, including BOQs, pricing schedules, and contract documents.

• Evaluate and negotiate variations, claims, and extensions of time from contractors.

• Ensure contract compliance and timely certification of progress payments.

 

Cost Control & Reporting

• Conduct monthly cost reporting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.

• Track changes to the project scope and adjust budgets and cost projections accordingly.

• Provide early warning signals of cost overrun risks and recommend corrective actions.

 

Measurement & Valuation

• Measure and value work done on-site, prepare interim and final payment certificates.

• Participate in physical verification and reconciliation of quantities.

 

Tendering & Procurement Support

  • Assist in tender evaluations and contractor selection.
  • Review tender submissions for completeness and compliance with commercial requirements.

 

Risk Management

• Contribute to risk identification and value engineering sessions.

• Support mitigation planning related to cost and contract risks.

 

Stakeholder Engagement

• Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, and finance teams to ensure integrated delivery.

• Maintain accurate cost records and support audits when required

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • At least 7 years of Quantity surveying within the mining sector related to major construction projects
  • Good knowledge of scope of work and BOQ development along with experience of tender package preparations
  • B Degree / B Tech in Quantity Surveying or relevant qualification
  • Post graduate diploma/certificate in project management will be an advantage
  • Registration as a Professional Quantity Surveyor with SACQSP will be an advantage
  • Experience with budget allocations, cost estimations, cash flow forecasts and supplier account management
  • Must have adequate experience in the verification/surveying of earthworks, civils, mechanical, electrical, structural, plating and piping works
  • Experience in contracts management, assisting project leads with project related tasks and the reporting thereof
  • Sound knowledge of the interpretation of commercial agreements and the execution of contractual agreements
  • Supervisory or staff management experience will be an advantage

 

Technical skills.

 

  • Good Financial management and budget control
  • Excellent knowledge of quantity surveying best practices
  • Excellent Quantity surveying and planning skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Report writing and presentation skills
  • Expérience on workflow systems such as ORB and SAP
