Job Description
Reporting to the Project Manager Backfill, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring the governance and support of projects within Glencore Copper's portfolio in Africa. This includes ensuring rigorous management of capital investments, contributing to the application of the Capital Management Framework (CMF), as well as supporting governance and reporting processes. The role also involves ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures, while facilitating strategic decision-making for project development.
He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):
- Manage capital investments by overseeing and ensuring that all capital investments, whether for business maintenance or expansion, are motivated and executed in accordance with company policies, procedures and practices;
- Contribute to the Capital Management Framework (CMF) by providing inputs for Glencore Copper's Capital Management Framework (CMF), including relevant processes, systems and structures for projects in Africa. The individual will be required to identify risks and ensure all CMF requirements are met;
- Provide project governance and assurance by supporting governance and assurance activities for capital projects, interacting and coordinating with field Project Management Offices (PMOs) and steering committees.
- Support project reporting by assisting in the development of effective project reports across the regional portfolio to increase transparency. The individual will be required to conduct cost and schedule analyses and support the creation of reports that facilitate strategic decision-making ;
- Perform financial analyses by performing detailed project cost estimates, budget analyses, forecasts and schedule analyses as part of capital assurance activities;
- Provide strategic analysis and advice by providing analysis and advice to inform capital planning and program management requirements for Glencore Copper's portfolio in Africa;
- Support risk identification by ensuring all CMF requirements and standards have been met. The individual will be responsible for ensuring that risks are proactively identified, assessed and managed;
- Collaborate with local and regional teams, working closely with Regional Managers and General Managers to support capital project reporting and adherence to budgets and deadlines.
- Participate in internal control processes by taking an active part in control processes such as monthly project reports, budget audits and compliance with the Capital Management Framework (CMF);
- Follow company policies by strictly adhering to company policies and procedures. The individual will be responsible for ensuring that all activities are conducted in full compliance with internal guidelines and applicable regulations.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and experience
- Have a university degree in project management, finance, business administration or equivalent;
- Have at least 9 years of relevant experience in project services, project controls or Project Management Office (PMO) at all stages of the project life cycle;
- Having experience working with EPC/M project delivery organizations is an asset;
- Experience in managing large-scale projects from start to finish is highly desirable;
- Have a good command of English (knowledge of French is an asset).
Technical skills.
- Project management and project control at all stages;
- Have a solid knowledge of capital management frameworks (CMF);
- Have expertise in cost and schedule analysis;
- Have skills in budget estimation, forecasting and financial analysis;
- Have the ability to analyze complex data for decision making;
