Job Description

 

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager – Capital projects, the incumbent is responsible for supporting the business, driving growth and optimizing operational efficiency through implementing key projects that align with the company's strategic goals and objectives. The primary purpose of the role is to effectively apply modern best practice principles in managing all lifecycle stages of strategic initiatives, projects and programs within the organization in compliance with governance frameworks.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of underground mining capital projects, ensuring delivery of approved scope, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and business objectives.
  • Support mining operations through the successful execution of projects that improve production performance and contribute to delivery of the business plan.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to project engineers and technical teams, developing capability and succession within the department.
  • Ensure compliance with project governance frameworks, stage-gate requirements, company standards, and regulatory obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and manage capital budgets, forecasts, and long-term project investment plans to support future business growth and sustainability.
  • Monitor and control project risks, costs, schedules, quality, and resource utilization to achieve targeted project outcomes.
  • Prepare and present project performance reports, business cases, forecasts, and governance documentation to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with operational teams, contractors, suppliers, regulators, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project management systems, processes, and delivery practices across the project portfolio.
  • Ensure all projects are aligned with strategic business priorities and deliver sustainable value to the operation.

 

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering or related technical discipline
  • Affiliation to a recognized Engineering or Projects Management professional body or Professional Engineer certificate, and a Professional Project Management Certificate (PMP).
  • Post graduate qualification in business management and/or leadership will be an advantage
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the mining/mineral processing sector, including direct management of major engineering project teams
  • Proven technical expertise and engineering management on major projects (>$50M) and greater knowledge and experience in other related disciplines
  • Strong knowledge and experience in major project lifecycles, ensuring that all approvals are obtained at all phases of projects, from design to pre-feasibility study, feasibility study, and execution, and

 

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Functional experience with business enterprise resourcing programs such as SAP.
  • Proficient in the application of project management tools such as CAD, planning and scheduling software.
  • Financial management and its impact on programs, including capex budgeting.
  • Management of major projects from start to finish.
  • Implementation of project management processes and the associated financial system.
