Description:

Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

As an industrial mining company, we provide safe workplaces and support the sustainable development of the local economy. We maintain a constructive and open dialogue with the communities that host us, as well as with the provincial and national government.

Under the supervision of the Manager: TSF Studies & Investigations, the role of the incumbent will be to manage and coordinate all studies and designs relating to tailings management facilities (TSF) in copper and cobalt projects. He/she will be involved in the entire project life cycle, from conceptual studies to commissioning and handover to operations. He/she will ensure the development of optimized, safe technical solutions that comply with international standards. The position also involves the management of multidisciplinary interfaces and technical risks. Finally, he/she will act as a technical expert in waste management.

He/She will have, among others, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

  • Conduct conceptual and pre-feasibility studies for TSFs. This includes evaluating different tailings storage options (conventional, filtered, pulp, dry stockpiling), conducting site analyses, developing engineering concepts, and conducting initial risk analyses and comparative studies.
  • Carry out technical and economic feasibility studies. This includes developing detailed designs, establishing hydrological and geotechnical models, producing cost estimates, conducting stability analyses, and integrating operational and environmental requirements.
  • Develop detailed engineering designs for TSF facilities. This includes producing technical plans, calculations and specifications, designing structures (dikes, drainage systems, water management), optimizing solutions and preparing execution documentation.
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase. This includes overseeing work compliance, reviewing contractor deliverables, answering technical questions, validating design changes, and participating in on-site inspections.
  • Lead commissioning and handover activities to operations. This includes developing commissioning plans, defining performance criteria, training operational teams, preparing manuals (OMS) and ensuring the technical transition to operation.
  • Manage projects and coordinate stakeholders. This includes planning, tracking costs and schedules, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing technical interfaces, and producing progress reports for stakeholders.
  • Perform advanced geotechnical and hydrological analyses. This includes performing stability analyses, seismic assessments, water modelling, analysing field data and defining complementary investigation needs.
  • Ensure the management of technical and environmental risks. This includes identifying risks, conducting criticality analyses, developing mitigation strategies, and integrating regulatory and social requirements into designs.
  • Promote innovation and technical excellence. This includes following industry best practices, evaluating innovative technologies, contributing to internal standards, and participating in technical journals or trade publications.
  • Supervise and develop the skills of the technical teams. This includes mentoring junior engineers, facilitating technical workshops, sharing feedback and contributing to the development of skills within the team.
