Job description.
Under the direct supervision of the Concentrator General Manager, The Maintenance Planning and improvement Manager for the concentrator is responsible for overseeing the planning, scheduling, shutdowns and overhauls and condition monitoring to enable safe and efficient execution of all maintenance activities to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the plant equipment and infrastructure. This role involves strategic planning, implementing maintenance best practices, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety. The manager as part of the function, is expected to collaborate with various departments to ensure the seamless operation of mining and processing activities, ultimately contributing to the overall productivity and profitability of the organization.
He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):
Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the maintenance team and planning team.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and certifications.
Maintenance Planning
- Working with the Asset Reliability function, develop and implement comprehensive and executable maintenance plans, including preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance.
- Create detailed schedules for maintenance activities, ensuring minimal disruptions to operations.
- Coordinate with operations and production teams to minimize downtime and ensure the availability of critical equipment.
- Ensure Major Events Calendars is in place for critical assets shutdowns and overhauls.
- Reinforce shutdown best practices overall site to ensure shutdown effectiveness as per the Glencore Asset Management Framework and Copper Management System.
Continuous Improvement/Reliability
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement strategies to enhance maintenance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Utilize data analysis and metrics to monitor maintenance performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Lead condition monitoring activities and ensure proper actions are initiated and implemented on critical assets.
- Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Resource Management
- Allocate resources, including personnel, tools, and materials, to meet maintenance requirements effectively.
- Manage and optimize spare parts inventory to ensure availability while minimizing costs.
- Oversee the development and training of maintenance personnel to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement processes to support maintenance activities.
Budgeting and cost control
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget, tracking expenditures and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Analyze maintenance costs and implement measures to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors to secure necessary services and supplies.
Collaboration and Communication
- Act as a liaison between maintenance and other departments, fostering strong communication and collaboration.
- Prepare and present reports on maintenance performance, improvement initiatives, and project progress to senior management.
- Facilitate regular meetings to review maintenance plans, discuss issues, and share best practices.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Supervise and mentor maintenance teams, including planners, engineers, and technicians.
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of the maintenance workforce.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
Reporting and Analysis
- Utilize maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track, monitor, and report on maintenance activities.
- Prepare and present regular reports on maintenance performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics.
- Analyze maintenance data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management to support strategic decision-making.
