Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the direct supervision of the Development Supervisor , the incumbent will be responsible for carrying out vertical production drilling operations, using the Simba or "Solo" drilling machine, for the extraction of copper and cobalt. He/she will be responsible for the care, safe use and preventive maintenance of the equipment, thus ensuring that drilling complies with the company's quality and safety standards.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

 

  • Comply with site rules and regulations: This includes knowing and complying with site rules and regulations relating to the use of the Simba Sandvik Solo, contributing to the overall safety of mining operations.
  • Taking charge of the drilling machine: This includes familiarizing yourself with the work program, the location and allocation of the machine, checking the condition of the site (ventilation, support), checking the external appearance of the machine, ensuring the levels of important components (engine oil, hydraulic compressor, fuel), checking for leaks, starting the machine, carrying out hydraulic movements and testing the effectiveness of the brakes before reporting any anomalies or breakdowns noted.
  • Moving the machine and securing the site: This includes moving the machine to the site, ensuring the condition of the site from a ventilation and support perspective, and checking that the site is supplied with working water and electrical power, thus ensuring a safe and functional working environment.
  • Checking the layout and compliance with the module: This involves checking the layout on site according to the drilling module, ensuring the accuracy and compliance of the layouts for drilling operations .
  • Operate the machine in accordance with procedures: This includes using machine starting, parking and stopping procedures in accordance with company and site requirements, demonstrating knowledge and skills regarding safe work procedures, and operating the Simba Solo controls and features according to the manufacturer's requirements and supervisors' instructions.
  • Install and stabilize the machine: This includes installing and stabilizing the machine according to the drilling module of chambers, bolts, cables, etc., ensuring the stability and accuracy of the equipment before operations begin.
  • Connecting the machine to power sources: This involves connecting the machine to the water and electrical power sources according to the established procedure, ensuring continuous and safe operation of the equipment.
  • Drilling to Module: This involves drilling in strict accordance with the drilling module, including hole orientation and depth, to ensure quality and efficiency in production operations.
  • Comply with site rules and regulations: This includes knowing and complying with site rules and regulations relating to the use of the Simba Sandvik Solo, contributing to the overall safety of mining operations.
  • Prepare the end of shift report: This includes preparing and submitting a detailed report at the end of each shift, documenting the operations carried out, any incidents and daily performance in terms of meters drilled.
  • Ensure cleanliness and report defects: This involves carrying out machine cleaning tasks before and after the work shift and reporting any defects found on the takeover checklist, in order to keep the equipment in good working order and prevent breakdowns.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Hold a post-primary school leaving certificate (at least 4 years), a Professional Aptitude Certificate (BAP), or an equivalent state diploma.
  • Professional experience: Have a minimum of 3 years experience in an underground mine and at least 5 years of professional experience in drilling operations with Simba Sandvik Solo drilling machine.
  • Thorough knowledge of drilling and support procedures.
  • Sandvik Solo drilling machine .
  • Valid driving license and ability to drive heavy machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret drilling diagrams.
  • Be of Congolese nationality.

 

Technical skills.

 

  • Solo/Simba Operation Proficiency: Includes starting, parking, stopping, and precise manipulation of machine controls according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Knowledge of vertical drilling techniques: Expertise in the application of drilling modules, including hole orientation and depth.
  • First level preventive maintenance: Ability to perform daily machine checks and identify anomalies (fluid levels, leaks, etc.).
  • Reading and interpreting plans: Ability to understand and apply layout modules and drilling diagrams.
  • Mining Safety Knowledge: Thorough understanding and rigorous application of site-specific safety rules and regulations.
