Under direct supervision of the Development Supervisor , the main role of the incumbent will be to carry out horizontal drilling operations and site support using the Jumbo drilling machine, in strict compliance with safety standards and operational procedures. He/she will be responsible for the first-level care, use and maintenance of the equipment, thus ensuring the efficient and safe progress of copper and cobalt extraction work.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

 

  • Comply with site safety rules and regulations: This includes knowing and following all site rules and regulations relating to the use of the Jumbo, as well as ensuring personal and collective safety during operations.
  • Taking charge of the Jumbo drilling machine: This includes familiarizing yourself with the work program and the machine's assignment, checking the general condition of the site (ventilation, support), external and internal inspection of the machine (oil levels, fuel, absence of leaks), starting and testing the hydraulic functions and brakes, as well as reporting any anomalies or breakdowns before moving to the site.
  • Check the worksite working environment: This includes ensuring the adequate condition of the site ventilation and support, as well as checking the working water supply and electrical power, which are essential elements for the smooth running of drilling operations.
  • Controlling the drilling pattern layout: This involves ensuring that the drilling pattern layout complies with the specifications and the defined module, ensuring the accuracy of mining operations.
  • Perform site drilling and support operations: This includes using machine starting, parking and stopping procedures in accordance with company and site requirements, applying knowledge and skills in safe work procedures, and operating Jumbo controls according to manufacturer's guidelines and supervisors' instructions.
  • Ensuring drilling quality: This includes drilling with strict adherence to the module, the parallelism of the boreholes, and starting with the cover survey when drilling below the hydrostatic level, in order to ensure the efficiency and safety of operations.
  • Supporting construction sites according to standards: This includes the installation of bolts and mesh and the support of excavated areas in accordance with established standards and procedures, thus contributing to the stability and safety of underground infrastructure.
  • Checking for misfires and marking breeches: This involves identifying blast holes that have not detonated properly and marking the breeches for corrective action, thus ensuring the safety and effectiveness of firing.
  • Prepare the end-of-shift report: This involves writing a detailed report at the end of each shift, documenting the operations carried out, problems encountered and any information relevant to monitoring the work.
  • Ensure first-level cleanliness and maintenance of the machine: This includes performing pre- and post-shift cleaning tasks and reporting any defects found on the takeover checklist, contributing to equipment longevity and breakdown prevention.

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Hold a post-primary school leaving certificate (at least 4 years), a Professional Aptitude Certificate (BAP), or an equivalent state diploma.
  • Have proven experience of at least three (3) years of proven experience as a Jumbo operator ( Sandvik DD421 and 321 or other brand) in an underground environment, ideally in the copper and cobalt sector.
  • Thorough knowledge of drilling and support procedures.
  • Proficiency in Jumbo drilling machine operations and controls.
  • Valid driving license and ability to drive heavy machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret drilling diagrams.
  • Be of Congolese nationality.

 

Technical skills.

 

  • Jumbo Operation Proficiency: Includes starting, parking, stopping, and precise manipulation of machine controls according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Knowledge of drilling techniques: Includes drilling below hydrostatic level, respecting the module and maintaining parallelism of the blast holes.
  • Expertise in the installation of bolts and mesh to stabilize construction sites.
  • Ability to perform daily machine checks and identify anomalies (fluid levels, leaks, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret drilling plots and diagrams.
  • Understanding and application of site-specific safety rules and regulations.
