Job Description

 

Under the direct supervision of the DD&S Supervisor, the role of the incumbent will be to safely operate mine transport equipment, such as Caterpillar and Komatsu dump trucks, to ensure the efficient movement of ore, waste rock and miscellaneous materials around the mining site. He/she will be expected to rigorously apply first-level operational, safety and maintenance procedures. He/she will actively contribute to the optimization of transport cycles and the availability of equipment. The position involves teamwork in a demanding industrial environment. The incumbent will also be expected to communicate effectively with supervisors and other operators to ensure continuous and safe production.

 

He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

·      Operate the mining dump truck safely. This includes mastering the controls, adhering to load limits, adapting the speed to the terrain conditions and strictly enforcing safety regulations. This also includes maintaining constant alertness, driving defensively in risky areas, and the ability to maneuver accurately in tight or congested spaces.

·    Efficiently transport ore, waste rock and miscellaneous materials. This includes adhering to predefined routes, delivering materials to assigned dumping areas, and optimizing the transport cycle. This also includes managing production priorities, coordinating with loader operators and following up on dispatch signals or directives.

·       Perform pre-operational and post-operational inspections. This includes checking levels, tires, brakes, alarm systems, and any critical items before and after each shift. This includes the rigorous completion of checklists, the detection of anomalies, as well as the immediate communication of technical problems to the maintenance team to prevent breakdowns and ensure equipment availability.

·       Strictly comply with HSE standards in the mining environment. This includes wearing PPE correctly, obeying speed limits and internal traffic rules, and participating in safety talks. This also includes identifying and reporting hazards, preventing risky situations, and contributing to the protection of the environment by avoiding spills or unsafe behaviour.

·   Collaborate with the production, dispatching and maintenance team. This includes clear communication via radio, understanding instructions, coordinating with loaders, drillers and supervisors to maintain smooth production. This also includes participating in shift briefings and debriefings, transmitting relevant operational information, and adhering to internal reporting procedures.

·       Properly execute loading and dumping operations. This includes precise positioning under the loader, following hand signals, checking the body lift and safely executing unloading at designated locations. This also includes managing the stability of the machine, checking the load distribution, and making quick decisions in the event of adverse terrain conditions or unbalanced loads.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Hold a state diploma or a professional certificate; Technical training is an asset.
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation of dump trucks in a mining environment (copper, cobalt or similar).
  • Hold a valid driver's license suitable for heavy machinery.
  • Experience with the Caterpillar 793 is highly desired; however, knowledge of equivalent range machines such as CAT 777, 785 or Komatsu HD465, HD785 will also be considered.
  • Have a good knowledge of HSE rules in the mining environment.

Technical skills.

 

  • Master the driving of Caterpillar and Komatsu mining dump trucks.
  • Be familiar with operational safety and mine traffic procedures.
  • Know how to carry out pre-operational and post-operational inspections.
  • Understand embedded reporting systems (Modular, FMS, VIMS, Komtrax, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret signals, radio codes and operational instructions.
  • Ability to identify common mechanical abnormalities.
  • Knowledge of the mining production cycle (loading, transportation, dumping).
