Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the General Manager Asset protection, the incumbent is responsible for leading and coordinating strategies to prevent loss, protect assets, and ensure the integrity of integrated security and asset management systems.
The role ensures optimal performance and lifecycle management of security infrastructure, while aligning risk mitigation and asset protection practices with operational goals. Acts as a key interface between security, maintenance, IT, and executive teams to uphold safety, compliance, and efficiency across all critical operations. The role Owns the SOC, security technology, information flow and command systems, so that detection turns into controlled, well-documented response. The SOC does not only watch cameras: it verifies, records, escalates and closes response actions through an approved TARP.
The main tasks of the role are:
- Own SOC workflows, including TARP compliance, handovers, escalation discipline, response time tracking and incident closure with evidence.
- Drive CCTV, radio, access control and alarm performance, including the fault register, maintenance and coverage improvement priorities.
- Convert information, incident trends and hotspot analysis into field priorities.
- Oversee reporting: monthly packs, KPI dashboards and support to governance forums.
- Monitor response quality and incident closure across KCC.
- Lead, coach and hold the three Superintendents accountable for delivery.
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
- Operational Risk Assessment
- Identify and assess risks related to equipment misuse, fuel theft, unauthorized access to restricted zones, and safety hazards across mine sites.
- Regularly conduct loss-prevention and security-control reviews across open-pit, underground, processing and support operations, in coordination with relevant HSE and operational functions.
- Security Management
- Oversee the implementation of perimeter security, surveillance systems (e.g., CCTV, drones), and access control for personnel and vehicles.
- Develop protocols for detecting and preventing theft or unauthorised removal of copper, cobalt, concentrates, reagents, fuel, equipment and other high-value Company assets.
- Incident Response & Investigation
- Lead or coordinate loss-prevention response to asset tampering, theft, security breaches and other suspicious activities, and support HSE-led response where incidents involve safety events.
- Coordinate with mine security, legal, and local authorities to investigate and resolve incidents.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Collaboration
- Support HSE compliance by identifying loss risks tied to workplace accidents, equipment failures, and environmental damage.
- Ensure alignment with mining-specific safety standards.
- Employee Awareness & Training
- Deliver training to site personnel on loss prevention, anti-theft protocols, and safe work practices.
- Promote a zero-tolerance culture for fraud, negligence, or asset misuse.
- Reporting & Data-Driven Decision Making
- Analyze trends in incidents, losses, or near misses.
- Use data to continuously improve risk controls and update prevention strategies.
- Security Asset Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of security assets: surveillance systems, access controls, perimeter defenses, drones, alarm systems, etc.
- Ensure timely procurement, maintenance, calibration, and retirement of security technologies.
- System Integration & Infrastructure Oversight
- Manage the integration of physical and digital security systems into one unified platform (e.g., VMS, ACS, intrusion detection, and cybersecurity systems).
- Ensure seamless interoperability between security hardware and software platforms.
- Access Control & Credential Management
- Design and manage secure access policies across high-risk areas (e.g., explosives storage, control rooms, critical machinery).
- Oversee ID badge systems, biometric scanners, and vehicle access checkpoints.
- Real-Time Monitoring & Incident Response
- Ensure 24/7 monitoring of all integrated security systems via a centralized security operations center (SOC).
- Coordinate rapid response protocols and ensure all incidents are logged, investigated, and resolved.
- Threat & Vulnerability Assessments
- Perform regular threat assessments and vulnerability scans across all security assets and infrastructure.
- Recommend upgrades or process changes based on evolving risks (internal/external).
- Data Management & Analytics
- Ensure accurate data collection from all security systems (e.g., video analytics, access logs, alarm triggers).
- Leverage dashboards and KPIs to assess system performance, security breaches, and asset utilization.
- Compliance & Governance
- Ensure security assets and systems are governed in line with applicable legal requirements, KCC/Group standards and relevant recognised frameworks (including ISO 27001, ISO 55000 and, where applicable, ISA/IEC 62443 and NIST guidance).
- Maintain documentation for audits, inspections, and legal purposes.
- Vendor & Contract Management
- Manage contracts with security service providers, integrators, and equipment vendors.
- Ensure SLAs are met, and systems remain up-to-date and fully functional.
- Training & Awareness
- Train security personnel and relevant staff on how to use and respond to alerts from integrated systems.
- Promote cybersecurity and physical security awareness across the organization.
- Strategic Planning & Budgeting
- Contribute to the long-term security strategy by identifying gaps and proposing future investment in advanced security technologies.
- Prepare budgets for new acquisitions, upgrades, or system expansions.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- BSc in Security Management, Risk Management, Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, Information Systems (with a Security Focus), or a similar field or equivalent Relevant security management or emergency management certification would be an advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of experience leading and coordinating strategies to prevent loss, protect assets, and ensure the integrity of integrated security and asset management systems.
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
- Physical Security Professional (PSP)
- Crisis Management or Emergency Response Training (ICS)
- Certified Security Project Manager (CPCM)
Technical Skills
- In-depth knowledge of surveillance systems, access control, and intrusion detection.
- Understanding of asset lifecycle planning, maintenance, and optimization.
- Familiarity with ISO standards: 55000 (asset), 27001 (information security), 45001 (safety).
- Competence in integrating physical security systems with IT infrastructure.
- Awareness of cybersecurity risks related to connected security assets.
- Skilled in risk analysis, vulnerability assessments, and loss prevention strategies.
- Experience with data analytics tools for tracking KPIs and asset performance.
- Capable of leading incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
- Knowledge of compliance, audit, and regulatory frameworks in high-risk industries.
- Ability to oversee asset tagging, tracking, and system integration across sites.
- Collaboration with maintenance, safety, IT, Digital Transformation and procurement departments.
