 Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Job Description

 

Reporting directly to the GM Processing Capital Projects, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the strategic and efficient acquisition of capital goods and services required for mining operations. He/she will be responsible for optimizing costs, ensuring timely and compliant purchases, developing strong supplier relationships, mitigating procurement risks and implementing efficient processes to support the growth and overall performance of the mining company .

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Develop and implement a capital sourcing strategy aligned with the mining company’s overall business objectives and capital expenditure plan. This includes conducting market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers, assess their capabilities and analyze pricing trends.
  • Establish and manage relationships with key suppliers and vendors. This involves implementing a rigorous supplier selection and evaluation process, including due diligence, risk assessment and performance benchmarking.
  • Negotiate favorable terms and conditions for contracts, ensuring good value for money and compliance with company policies. This includes managing supplier relationships, monitoring performance and addressing issues or concerns.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive contracts for capital goods and services, ensuring clarity, completeness and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. This involves overseeing contract execution, monitoring performance and managing contractual disputes or claims.
  • Implement effective change management processes to respond to contractual modifications or variations.
  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with capital procurement, such as supply chain disruptions, quality issues and cost overruns. This involves developing and implementing risk mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of these risks.
  • Monitor and control capital procurement costs, ensuring budgets are met and identifying cost reduction opportunities. This involves implementing cost-effective procurement practices, such as competitive bidding, reverse auctions and strategic sourcing.
  • Collaborate with engineering, finance and other departments to optimize capital expenditures.
  • Lead and manage a team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, training and support. This involves fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant procurement laws, regulations and company policies. This involves implementing effective governance processes to protect company assets and mitigate risks.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Have a university degree (bachelor's degree) in supply chain management, business administration, engineering or a related field.
  • Master's degree (preferred) in supply chain management, business administration or related field.
  • Demonstrate at least 7 (seven) years of experience in purchasing and supply chain management, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Have experience in contract and supply chain management and conducting procurement negotiations.

 

Technical skills.

 

  • In-depth understanding of the entire procurement process, from strategic planning to contract management.
  • Expertise in evaluating suppliers based on criteria such as financial stability, quality, delivery performance and compliance.
  • Proficiency in negotiating complex contracts, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for the organization.
  • Knowledge of relevant procurement laws, regulations and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with procurement software, ERP systems and other relevant IT tools.
  • Language skills: Fluency in French or Swahili is an advantage.
