Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Department-Finance, the incumbent is responsible for providing dedicated financial ownership of KCC's sustaining and expansion capital portfolio — from business cases through authorization, spend control and capitalization to post-investment review. The role gives the business, Group and audit a single point of accountability for capital, and makes sure every dollar committed is properly justified, authorized, controlled and accounted for.

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

  1. Business case support and challenge
  • Support project, engineering and operations teams in preparing capital submissions to site and Group standards.
  • Independently challenge assumptions, cost estimates, schedules and benefit cases before submission.
  • Ensure consistent economic evaluation (NPV, IRR, payback) and proper option analysis on every submission.
  • Confirm funding, phasing and accounting treatment before funds are requested.

  1. Authorization governance
  • Run the capital approval process in line with the delegation of authority and Group requirements.
  • Maintain the capital register, approval records and a complete audit trail.
  • Ensure no commitment is made against a project without valid authorization.

  1. Spend and commitment control
  • Track commitments and spending against approved authorizations, project by project.
  • Maintain cost to complete and forecast at completion together with project managers.
  • Control scope changes, supplementary requests and transfers between projects.
  • Report variances early enough to act on, with clear recommended actions.

  1. Fixed asset and capitalization integrity
  • Ensure timely capitalisation of assets under construction and work in progress.
  • Apply correct componentisation, useful lives and residual values in line with IAS 16.
  • Oversee asset verification and the integrity of the fixed asset register.
  • Provide accurate inputs to depreciation, unit of production and impairment (IAS 36) assessments.

  1. Capital reporting and planning
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly capital reporting to site leadership, Group and audit.
  • Provide the capital input into the budget, forecasts and the Life of Asset plan.
  • Act as the point of contact for external and internal audit on capital and fixed assets.

  1. Post-investment review and benefit realisation
  • Measure delivered benefits against the approved business case for completed projects.
  • Feed lessons learned back into the next capital cycle and into business case standards.

  1. People leadership
  • Lead, develop and coach the fixed assets and capital control team.
  • Set objectives, manage performance and build succession within the team.
  • Maintain SOPs and controls for the capital and fixed asset processes and drive continuous improvement.
