Job description

 

Reporting to the Manager – Sourcing & Contracts, the position holder will play a crucial role in optimizing procurement, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the efficient acquisition of goods and services. He/she will also develop sourcing and contracting strategies, plans and resource allocation and manage the implementation thereof to ensure that critical tasks, performance targets, plans and budgets are adhered to with due consideration of risk identification.

 

His/Her responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

 

1. Strategic Sourcing and Market Analysis  

  • Developing and executing procurement strategies aligned with business objectives and regional and global category strategies
  • Sets the strategic direction for the sourcing and contracts team in associated categories, which involves strategic sourcing and market analysis of categories. This includes analyzing market trends and supplier performance to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Identify strategic suppliers, coordinating business reviews, and actively driving improved supplier performance through continuous improvement programs and cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or delivery timelines.

 

2. Supplier and Vendor Management   

  • Lead supplier negotiations to ensure favorable terms and conditions, drive cost savings, and strengthen supplier relationships.
  • Maintain strong supplier relationships and ensure performance is tracked via scorecards.
  • Develop the supplier base and manage supply chain partner performance and relationships, including understanding the regional market, price drivers, and supplier options.

 

3. Sourcing and Contract Management 

  • Responsible for all Sourcing & Contracting activities across a sub-set of categories (including Sourcing plans), compiling and executing sourcing events, contracting and contract management (including Administration), supplier and contract performance management and commercial initiative definition and implementation.
  • Manage the effective and efficient execution of value delivery plans for routine and tactical sourcing and contracting activities.
  • Manage effective and efficient sourcing and contracting activities relating to all contracts in a timely and value-driven manner.
  • Provide proactive visibility and continuous improvement of sourcing and contracts pipeline related to allocated portfolio.
  • Implement value opportunities, assist with resolving risks and identify risk mitigation solutions for the portfolio.
  • Ensure cross-collaboration between internal and external stakeholders.

 

4. Cost Optimization and Efficiency  

  • Monitoring index-based pricing and negotiating favorable contract terms to support profitability.
  • Implement global category strategies and activities and leverage cost reduction programs and ideas in the region.

 

5. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute category-specific plans and pricing strategies.
  • Partnering with Plant Managers and Logistics and Supply Chain teams to align purchasing activity with operational goals.

 

6. Performance Monitoring and Reporting 

  • Monitor and evaluate category performance, leveraging key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures.
  • Ongoing proactive monitoring of suppliers regarding operational and financial status, maintenance plans, and credit capability.
  • Compiling management reports, monitoring savings, and ensuring procurement targets, such as those required by regulatory bodies, are met and reported annually.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on data analytics to improve the current Purchasing performance status.

 

7. Team Leadership and Development 

  • Managing, coaching, and developing subordinates, and building strong working relationships with internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Drive and develop team capability.
  • Ensure ongoing training and development, performance management, coaching and feedback to drive high performing teams.

 

 

 

Job requirements

 

Qualifications and experience

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
  • Have at least 7 years of professional experience in Commercial, Contracts and Procurement leadership roles, preferably in a mining or heavy industry environment.

 

Technical skills

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and enterprise software such as Coupa.
  • Ability to create and execute comprehensive procurement strategies for categories. 
  • Proficiency in identifying, evaluating, and managing a diverse range of suppliers, including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms and conditions, including warranties, limitation of liability, remedies, indemnities, and payment terms
  • Capacity to assess data, technical requirements, and market trends to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Commitment to optimizing processes, potentially through digitalization, and applying best practices in procurement.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with all organizational levels, external contacts, and cross-functional teams. The ability to influence stakeholders is critical.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of risk management strategies and assisting in managing supplier-related risks.
  • Intimate knowledge of operational changes to assess total costs and benefits for accurate Return on Investment (ROI) analysis.
  • Ability to lead and support a team, fostering collaboration and clear priorities to achieve common goals.
