Job description

 

 

Under the supervision of the Security Superintendent , the incumbent is responsible for the effective oversight, deployment, and performance management of K9 operations, in support of site security objectives. This role ensures that the canine teams are operationally ready, properly coached, compliant with procedures, and aligned with the company's overall security strategy.

 


He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

1. Support for security operations


•    Coordinate and optimize the daily deployment of K9 teams according to operational needs and risk areas.

•    Ensure the integration of canine teams into the overall security system (patrols, deterrence, rapid response).

 

2. Resource Management


•    Ensure the availability, preparation and maintenance of K9 dogs, handlers and equipment.

•    Oversee animal welfare as well as logistics management and resource traceability.


3. Compliance and reporting


•    Ensure compliance with procedures, HSE standards, regulatory requirements and internal standards.
•    Produce reports, ensure documentation of activities and report any incidents or non-conformities.

 

4. Communication and collaboration


•    Coordinate effectively with security teams and internal departments (SOC, HSE, HR, logistics).
•    Ensure clear, rapid and structured communication on K9 operations and incidents.

 

5. Team Leadership and Development


•    Supervise, mentor and evaluate the performance of K9 handlers.
•    Identify training needs and promote discipline and professionalism.

 

6. Continuous Improvement


•    Contribute to the optimization of procedures, deployment methods and operational efficiency.
•    Participate in incident analyses and implement corrective and preventive actions.

 

7. Incident Management Support


•    Supporting K9 interventions during security incidents (patrols, deterrence, controlled intervention).
•    Ensure full and immediate reporting of all incidents related to canine teams.

 


Job requirements 

 

Qualifications and experience

 

•    Hold a university degree (or equivalent).
•    Demonstrate at least four (4) years of professional experience in security operations.

•    Have proven experience in security operations in industrial, mining or high-risk environments.
•    Demonstrated experience in K9 operations and the supervision of canine teams.
•    Prior experience in team management or leadership is highly desirable.

•    Formal training in dog handling, K9 operations, or supervision of working dogs is required.
•    Additional training in industrial safety, site safety or operational supervision is an asset.
•    Training in HSE and/or incident management is highly desirable.

 

 

Technical skills.

 

•    Good knowledge of security operations, including patrol management and support for interventions.
•    Mastery of the principles of canine deployment, control of working dogs and animal welfare.
•    Understanding of security procedures, incident reporting and operational supervision in the field.

•    Knowledge of HSE requirements applicable to industrial and mining environments.
•    Ability to ensure operational follow-up, record keeping and the production of clear reports.
