Job description

 

The Governance and Risk Lead is a critical role responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing robust frameworks that ensure the integrity, compliance, and resilience of the entire mining supply chain function.

This individual acts as the primary guardian against operational, financial, and regulatory risks within procurement and logistics, safeguarding company assets and reputation while driving adherence to all internal policies and external regulations.

 

His/Her responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

 

1. Governance Framework Development & Implementation 

  • Design, implement, and maintain the supply chain governance framework, ensuring alignment with corporate compliance standards and industry best practices.
  • Develop, update, and enforce supply chain policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and approval matrixes across all sites and procurement activities.
  • Ensure transparency and accountability in all sourcing and contracting processes.

 

2. Risk Management and Mitigation  

  • Conduct comprehensive supply chain risk assessments, including supplier financial health, geopolitical risks, cybersecurity threats, single points of failure (especially for critical MRO parts), and logistics disruptions.
  • Develop and implement proactive risk mitigation strategies and business continuity plans to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential goods and services.

 

3. Compliance and Audit Management

  • Ensure all supplier onboarding, due diligence, and contract management processes adhere to ethical sourcing, anti-bribery, and anti-corruption standards.
  • Manage and track corrective actions resulting from audit findings to ensure timely resolution.

 

4. Supplier Management and Due Diligence    

  • Implement robust supplier vetting and monitoring programs, ensuring adherence to the company’s safety, health, environmental, and social responsibility (ESG) standards.
  • Verify that all contracts contain appropriate compliance clauses, performance metrics, and risk-transfer provisions.

 

5. Reporting and Training

  • Establish key risk indicators (KRIs) and governance dashboards for executive leadership, providing regular, insightful reporting on the health of the supply chain risk profile.
  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs to all procurement staff and relevant business stakeholders to embed a culture of risk awareness and compliance.

 

6. People Management

  • Provide effective supervision to the team, setting performance objectives and providing coaching and mentoring.
  • Identifies, builds and develops talent and capability, including a pipeline of talent.
  • Ensures the effective delivery of training and coaching support across teams ensuring teams have access to training resources and training targets are being achieved for teams and individuals.
  • Drive and develop team capability, ensure ongoing training and development.
  • Performance management, coaching and feedback to drive high performing teams.

 

 

 

Job requirements

 

Qualifications and experience

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Supply chain management, Business Administration, Business Management, Risk Management, Finance, Law, or similar.
  • Have at least 7 years of professional experience in Supply Chain and Risk Management roles, preferably in a mining or heavy industry environment.

 

Technical skills

  • Deep understanding of risk management frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights
  • Ability to ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Commitment to optimizing processes, potentially through digitalization, and applying best practices in Supply Chain.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with all organizational levels, external contacts, and cross-functional teams. The ability to influence stakeholders is critical.
  • Contribution to the development and implementation of Supply Chain risk management strategies and assisting in managing supplier-related risks.
  • Intimate knowledge of operational changes to assess total costs and benefits for accurate Return on Investment (ROI) analysis.
