Main objectives of the position
Under the direct supervision of the Assurance & Contractors Management Superintendent, the Contractors Assurance Officer is responsible of implementing contractor safety, risk and assurance management systems that complies with MUMI's safety requirements and Glencore Safework processess. The incumbent ensures compliance through continuous auditing of procedures, effective communication with relevant departments, and support in developing and implementing corrective actions to address system defeciencies and failures.
Minimum qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Engineering, or any other related field.
- Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, SAMTRAC, ISO 45001 Auditor, ICAM or equivalent will be highly advantageous.
Required Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a health and safety role within and industrial or mining environment.
Required skills
- Fluent in French and Swahili. Working proficiency in English is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of ICAM incident investigation methodology.
- Knowledge of contractor management and safety assurance systems.
- Understanding of risk assessment methodologies and critical control management.
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 principles and auditing techniques.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to influence safe behaviours and intervene in unsafe work practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the provision of a safe working environment through the implementation of and adherence to site safety policies, standards, and procedures.
- Liaise with key stakeholders to support the achievement of strategic business objectives.
- Complete scheduled SafeWork and Fatal Hazard inspections, observations, and associated CCVs/KCDSs.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and demonstrate the authority and courage to stop unsafe work practices.
- Ensure contractor personnel understand and comply with applicable health and safety procedures.
- Conduct routine contractor compliance audits to verify adherence to system requirements and field safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, audit findings, and corrective actions related to identified deviations.
- Monitor contractor compliance with environmental standards, procedures, permits, and applicable legal requirements.
- Conduct regular HSE inspections to identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks associated with contractor activities.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents involving contractors and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture among contractors and employees through coaching, awareness, and continuous engagement
- Comply with Glencore's environmental management requirements and procedures as well as MUMI SARL's enviromental policy.
