Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the supervision of the Regional Technical Study Manager, the post holder will liaise with all technical disciplines such as mining engineers, environmental engineers, geologists and surveyors. External liaison is required with consultants, suppliers and laboratory staff.

The Senior Hydrologist will be responsible for hydrological and surface water support functions for projects in Africa.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Conduct in-depth hydrogeological investigations, including site assessments, field studies, data collection and analysis. Interpret geological, hydrological and geophysical data to characterize groundwater aquifers and groundwater flow systems.
  • Design and implement groundwater monitoring programs to assess water quality, quantity, and potential impacts. Install and maintain monitoring wells, collect samples, and analyze data to ensure accurate and up to date information.
  • Use hydrological and runoff mobilization software to simulate groundwater and surface water flow and other relevant processes. Interpret modeling results to support decision making and develop strategies and management plans for sustainable resource management.
  • Support collaboration between mining hydrogeology, geotechnical and operations teams across different sites and regions, ensuring that innovation and best practice initiatives are successfully shared.
  • Work in synergy with interdisciplinary teams, including geologists, environmental scientists, engineers and regulatory agencies, to ensure that project objectives are achieved efficiently.
  • Design and implement water monitoring technologies across our operations.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of stakeholders.

 

Job requirements .

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • Have a university degree in geosciences such as geography, geology and/or civil engineering, with postgraduate studies in hydrogeology considered favorably.
  • Have proven experience in hydrogeological and surface water studies, groundwater modeling and data analysis.
  • Have a high level of competence in writing technical reports.
  • Can influence people at all levels of the company.
  • Having 15 years of experience in mining hydrogeology and base metals hydrology would be an asset.
  • Have previous experience working with diverse teams preferably in Africa.
  • Fluency in English (preferably bilingual French/English).
