Main Objectives of the Position
Under the direct supervision of the Manager - Health & Safety, the Health and Safety Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the effective implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Health and Safety systems across mining operations.
The role ensures adherence to company policies, safety regulations, and operational standards while supporting the sustainable development of a strong safety culture. The incumbent will coordinate, plan, and manage HSE programmes in collaboration with operational departments and stakeholders to achieve business safety objectives and “Zero Fatality” targets.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
Required Experience
Minimum of six (6) to ten (10) years’ experience in Health & Safety within mining or heavy industrial environments.
At least three (3) years in a managerial or supervisory HSE role.
Required Skills
Strong knowledge of Health & Safety management systems and mining safety standards.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Strong cross-cultural communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Strong leadership, coaching, and team management capabilities.
Ability to analyze safety data, identify risks, and implement corrective actions.
Strong understanding of incident investigation methodologies (ICAM advantageous).
Ability to manage priorities and deliver results under pressure.
Strong knowledge of SAFEWORK systems and safety compliance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, implement, and continuously improve Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programs across mining operations.
Ensure compliance with company standards (SAFEWORK, GCP) and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of HSE programs across operational areas.
Conduct and oversee ICAM incident investigations and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
Perform routine inspections of equipment, facilities, and work areas to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
Monitor unsafe behaviours and actively coach employees to reinforce safe practices.
Conduct audits, surveys, and gap assessments and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Lead, develop, and evaluate Safety Officers, ensuring strong team performance and capability development.
Monitor leading and lagging indicators and implement improvement actions based on trends.
Coordinate closely with operational departments to integrate safety into all mining activities.
Support development and implementation of HSE management systems and SAFEWORK tools.
Analyze incident data and provide actionable insights to reduce workplace risks and exposures.
Ensure effective communication of safety performance, risks, and improvement actions to management.
Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership, coaching, and engagement.
Ensure compliance with Glencore SAFEWORK standards and MUMI SARL environmental policies.
