Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Operating Officer, the role of the incumbent will be to define, steer and govern the Asset Management and Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) reliability strategy to ensure sustainable performance of copper and cobalt mining operations. He/She will ensure the implementation of best maintenance and engineering practices, ensure the integrity of critical assets and develop strategies to improve the availability, reliability and safety of equipment throughout its life cycle. The position contributes directly to operational performance, risk management, cost optimization and the protection of people, the environment and communities.

 

He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Define and manage the asset management strategy. This includes the development, governance and continuous improvement of the company's asset management framework, maintenance management systems, change management processes and engineering standards to support the organization's strategic objectives;
  • Ensure the governance of equipment reliability. This includes defining asset reliability policies, conducting critical equipment risk assessments, developing technical standards, and implementing strategies to improve asset availability, safety, and performance;
  • Develop short-, medium- and long-term maintenance strategies. This includes the development of Life of Mine (LOM)-aligned maintenance and asset management plans, long-term mining strategies, and production targets to ensure the sustainability of operations.
  • Coordinate major shutdowns and general equipment overhauls. This includes central planning of shutdowns, overhauls and major maintenance work, coordinating with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Health & Safety, Procurement and external partners to limit production disruptions.
  • Optimize risk management for industrial assets. This includes overseeing preventive, statutory and condition-based maintenance programs, managing critical controls, as well as implementing measures to prevent major failures that could affect people, operations, communities or the environment.
  • Manage the financial performance of maintenance activities. This includes developing, monitoring and optimizing OPEX and CAPEX budgets, identifying opportunities for cost improvement, controlling investments as well as ensuring efficient use of financial resources.
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. This includes conducting benchmarking exercises with the Glencore Group's other mining operations as well as identifying, evaluating and implementing best practices to improve equipment reliability and overall operations performance.
  • Develop the technical and managerial skills of the teams. This includes the definition and governance of skills development, training, coaching and mentoring programs for technicians, planners, coordinators, supervisors, reliability engineers, superintendents and managers to build sustainable organizational capacity.
  • Provide strategic leadership and effective collaboration with stakeholders. This includes producing strategic reports to senior management and internal and external stakeholders, managing contracts with strategic partners, as well as promoting effective collaboration between Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Finance, Supply Chain, Health & Safety and suppliers and suppliers to achieve the company's performance objectives.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • University degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline; an MBA or qualification in Finance is an asset.
  • Minimum of fiftheen (15) years of relevant experience in the mining industry or a comparable heavy industry, including proven experience in a management position (Min 5 years)  in maintenance, asset management or equipment reliability. 
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing maintenance and asset management strategies within complex industrial operations.
  • Strong experience in managing OPEX/CAPEX budgets, industrial risk management, change management and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience in strategic contract management, team development, coaching and leadership of multidisciplinary teams.

Technical skills.

 

  • Strategic management of industrial assets (Asset Management) and asset reliability (Asset Reliability & Asset Integrity).
  • Development and implementation of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance strategies, including the planning of maintenance activities.
  • Management of Mobile Mining Equipment (HME), Shutdowns and Overhauls.
  • Failure Analysis (RCA), Risk Management, Critical Controls and Management of Change (MoC).
  • Performance management through KPIs, OPEX/CAPEX budgets and cost optimization.
  • Development of engineering standards, technical document management and knowledge of international best maintenance practices.
  • Proficient in CMMS, Microsoft Office tools and HSE standards applicable to mining operations.
