Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.
As an industrial mining company, we provide safe workplaces and support the sustainable development of the local economy. We maintain a constructive and open dialogue with the communities that host us, as well as with the provincial and national government.
Under the supervision of the Manager: TSF Studies & Investigations, the role of the incumbent will be to manage the cost estimation and quantity surveyor activities for Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) projects in the mining sector (copper and cobalt), from the conceptual design phases to the construction, commissioning and closure of the structures. He/she will ensure the reliability of budget estimates, cost control and financial analysis of projects. He/she will work closely with the engineering, planning and project management teams to ensure optimal cost control. He/she will also contribute to the analysis of risks, technical choices and contractual strategies. Finally, he/she will participate in the continuous improvement of the estimation and financial management methods of TSF projects.
He/She will have, among others, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):
- Develop cost estimates for TSF projects. This includes the realization of detailed estimates at all phases of the project (conceptual, PFS, FS, execution and close-out), including CAPEX, OPEX, closure costs, as well as contingency and escalation analyses according to the level of maturity of the project.
- Develop project budgets and financial bases. This includes structuring project budgets, defining cost breakdown structures (CBS), aligning with WBS, and preparing life-of-mine cost profiles in coordination with production plans.
- Carry out the quantities and quantities of the works. This includes the calculation of quantities from technical plans and documents, the quantification of earthworks, materials, concrete, pipelines and equipment, as well as the production of bills of quantities (BOQ) for calls for tenders.
- Ensure cost control and monitoring. This includes tracking actual spend against approved budgets, analyzing variances, preparing financial performance reports, as well as implementing earned value management (EVM) and forecasting to completion.
- Support procurement and contracting processes. This includes preparing estimates for tenders, analyzing business proposals, evaluating bids, identifying contract risks, and supporting contract negotiations and management.
- Contribute to the technical and economic studies of projects. This includes the development of estimates for feasibility studies, benchmarking of technical solutions for waste management, as well as participation in cost-benefit analyses and economic models.
- Manage costs in the detailed design phase. This includes updating estimates based on the evolution of engineering studies, assessing direct and indirect costs, participating in constructability reviews and supporting value engineering exercises.
- Monitor costs during the construction phase. This includes checking company counts, checking installed quantities, analyzing additional work, managing variances, and forecasting costs to completion.
- Manage financial risks and contingencies. This includes identifying cost risks, performing probabilistic analyses (Monte Carlo), preparing risk registers, defining contingencies and monitoring their use.
- Ensure financial reporting and communication. This includes the preparation of cost reports, dashboards, performance indicators, variance analyses, stakeholder presentations, and documentation of estimation assumptions and risks.
