Job Description

 

Under the direct supervision of the Environmental Manager, the incumbent is responsible for leading the organisation's water governance and establishing the water management vision based on the principles of water stewardship, to ensure operational compliance with environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and recognised good practice. The incumbent develops, implements and maintains the site water management strategy using an integrated and adaptive water management approach to drive continuous improvement and manage risk.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

 

  1. Lead Integrated Water Management and Water Quality Improvement:

 

  • Develop and maintain the integrated site Water Management Strategy.
  • Lead implementation of the Water Quality Improvement Program.
  • Maintain the site water balance and water quality management system.
  • Drive water treatment optimization, sediment management, stormwater management and seepage control.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and mitigation of water-related environmental risks.
  • Establish and monitor water quality KPIs, TARPs and Critical Controls.
  • Develop and maintain executive dashboards and Water Improvement Plan trackers.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver water infrastructure projects and operational improvements.
  • Lead regulatory engagement, compliance reporting and lender due diligence relating to water management.
  • Champion continuous improvement through innovation, technology and best practice water stewardship.
  • Contribute to environmental reporting for internal, regulatory, and investor disclosures
  • Embed water management into mine and operational planning, not only meeting stipulated requirements but also influencing design and execution.

 

  1. Life of Asset (LoA) Integration

 

  • Support the implementation of water data tracking systems in alignment with the Life of Asset (LoA) framework
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records related water to support environmental performance reviews
  • Provide validated environmental inputs (e.g. spatial data, monitoring results, field observations) to the Environmental Manager and Planning teams for use in LoA-related reports and reviews
  • Conduct regular field checks and ensure that environmental metrics relevant to the LoA schedule are accurately reported and aligned with defined operational targets
  • Assist in the preparation of LoA-related documentation and dashboards.

 

 

  1. Contractor & Project Oversight

 

  • Supervise consultants and contractors executing environmental water-related works/project
  • Support delivery of relevant CAPEX and OPEX projects to quality, budget, and time expectations
  • Provide engineering input into permit compliance and environmental studies.

 

 

  1. Regulatory and ESG Compliance

 

  • Ensure implementation of and compliance with applicable DRC environmental laws, Glencore HSEC & HR standards and relevant external ESG requirements.
  • Provide technical input for ESIAs, permits, and environmental components of closure planning
  • Ensure site operations abide by environmental laws and support water stewardship initiatives
  • Define appropriate water requirements that meet the expectations of external stakeholders
  • Support environmental inspections, audits and corrective actions.
  • Provide engineering input into permit compliance and environmental studies.

 

 

  1. Stakeholder Management

 

  • Build effective working relationships across operational and support functions and with external stakeholders to support effective water management.
  • Collaborate with Mining, Processing, TSF, Engineering, Maintenance and Projects to implement water engineering solutions.

 

 

  1. Reporting and Governance

 

  • Prepare accurate reports, support audits and ensure compliance with statutory and organizational requirements

 

 

  1. People

 

  • Support skills development and teamwork

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in water engineering or similar, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 7 years' relevant experience in water management within the mining sector.
  • Experience DRC environmental regulations and international standards (e.g., Copper Mark, IFC Performance Standards, ICMM, ISO 14001) is advantageous.
  • Fluency in English is essential; additional languages are advantageous.
