Main objectives of the position

 

Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor – Investigations and Mitigation, the Environmental Officer - Investigations and Mitigation  is responsible for conducting environmental investigations across MUMI's mining and processing operations. The role focuses on identifying, investigating, documenting, and mitigating environmental incidents, including but not limited to illegal waste disposal, water pollution, air pollution, soil contamination, and hazardous waste management.

 

The incumbent works closely with operational departments to establish the root causes of environmental incidents, recommend corrective and preventive actions, and ensure compliance with environmental legislation, Glencore standards, and MUMI SARL's environmental management system.

 

Minimum qualification 

 

Bachelor's Degree (Bac+3) or equivalent in: Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Sciences Or a related field

 

Required Experiences

 

  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in a mining, industrial, or similar environment.
  • Experience conducting environmental inspections and incident investigations.
  • Experience in environmental compliance monitoring and reporting.
  • Experience identifying environmental risks and implementing mitigation measures.
  • Experience working with environmental regulations and management systems is an advantage.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Good report writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collect, preserve, analyse and interpret environmental evidence.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Fluency in French, English and Swahili.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Strong commitment to safety, sustainability and environmental stewardship.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct environmental inspections across mining and processing areas.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and determine their root causes.
  • Collect, preserve and evaluate environmental evidence and samples.
  • Prepare detailed investigation reports and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate investigations with relevant operational departments.
  • Monitor environmental incidents and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are implemented.
  • Assess environmental risks associated with mining and processing activities.
  • Promote compliance with environmental legislation, Company standards and best practices.
  • Participate in environmental awareness and safety initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Glencore's environmental management requirements and procedures as well as MUMI SARL's environmental policy.
