Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Reporting to the Environmental Supervisor, the incumbent's role will be to support the management of the environmental function within our mining operation at KCC. This will include implementing environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with company regulations and standards, and actively promoting sustainable environmental practices across all mining operations. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of our environmental performance by ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practices. 


He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

•    Compliance and Regulation : This includes implementing systems, procedures and methodologies to improve environmental performance (air quality, water and waste management, biodiversity); Interpreting and monitoring evolving national and international legislation and requirements (e.g. ISO 14001) to ensure compliance; Supporting regulatory compliance and permitting processes, including reporting and liaison with regulatory bodies.
•    Monitoring and Audits : Deploy and manage water, air, noise, vibration, biodiversity and waste monitoring programs; Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company policies.
•    Incident Management and Reporting : This involves reporting environmental incidents and non-conformities, then developing and implementing appropriate corrective and preventive actions; Maintaining accurate and up-to-date environmental data records to contribute to the production of monthly, quarterly and annual environmental reports; Conducting trend analyses on incidents and non-conformities, and making recommendations to management regarding preventive measures; Attending incident investigations and actively participating in environmental action closure meetings.
•    Communication and training : This includes facilitating awareness training and toolbox talks for operational staff and contractors; supporting internal and external audits, ensuring that recommendations are addressed within the given timeframe.
•    Continuous Improvement and Project Implementation : This includes contributing to the design and review of environmental procedures, guidelines and work instructions; Participating in environmental impact studies, baseline studies and risk assessments of mining and expansion projects; Promoting biodiversity conservation and land rehabilitation initiatives on site.


Job requirements .


Qualifications and experience.

 

•    Hold a University Degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Development, Ecology, Agronomy , Engineering or a related discipline.
•    Have between 6 and 24 months of experience in the environmental field , ideally acquired in the mining, industrial or infrastructure sectors.
•    Have a working knowledge of environmental regulations and international and/or national standards of the DRC (e.g., the Environmental Protection Law, the ISO 14001 Mining Code and Regulations).
•    Have experience with environmental monitoring equipment and data analysis,
•    Having a good understanding of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and environmental data management tools would be an advantage;
•    Knowledge of French is mandatory and English would be an asset.

•    Have in-depth knowledge of environmental standards and regulations in force.
•    Have a mastery of relevant computer tools for the collection and analysis of environmental data.
