Main objectives of the position
Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent – Metallurgical Technical Services, the incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing procedures aimed at ensuring the integrity of Metallurgical Accounting and reporting in compliance with applicable standards, managing finished product quality control, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
Working closely with the operations team, the role will support decision-making processes, evaluate metallurgical performance, and ensure operational efficiency in order to achieve company objectives safely.
Minimum qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering.
Required Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in mineral processing and copper/cobalt hydrometallurgy.
Strong knowledge of metallurgical accounting processes.
Required skills
Strong expertise in metal balance calculations (knowledge of the AMIRA P754 Code) – Modeling Software and Mass Balance Systems.
Good understanding of metallurgical and mineral processing operations.
Knowledge of sampling principles and quality control related to Copper and Cobalt.
Knowledge of conducting metallurgical tests and designing experimental plans.
Proficiency in statistics and the ability to apply statistical methods to evaluate the accuracy and bias of measurement data, analyze complex datasets, and assess performance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
Compliance with safety standards and applicable regulations.
Experience with systems used for storing production data (e.g., PI System, SCADA, or other process control systems).
Advanced proficiency in Excel and analytical tools for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to interact effectively with diverse teams (Finance, Operations, Laboratory, Engineering) to collect data and clearly explain complex results.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate variances and identify root causes of data inconsistencies.
Ability to coordinate operational teams and introduce best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate laboratory investigations (special and routine tests) to provide accurate results that support decision-making.
Assist in long-term and short-term production planning.
Supervise and train Quality and Sampling teams.
Calculate the value of WIP (Work-in-Progress) inventory within plant circuits for monthly accounting balances.
Develop data cross-verification methodologies.
Coordinate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual physical inventory counts of finished products to reconcile physical quantities with accounting records.
Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to team members.
Manage the performance of direct reports and provide growth and development opportunities.
Ensure metallurgical processes are implemented in compliance with safety standards and company requirements.
Monitor operational performance and quality control of metallurgical products.
Effectively manage incidents and safety-related issues.
Comply with Glencore environmental management requirements and procedures, as well as MUMI SARL environmental policies.
Carry out any other tasks assigned by management within the scope of his/her competencies.
