Main objectives of the position
Reporting directly through to the General Manager -Supply Chain, the Contract Manager – Capital Projects and Strategic Services plays the crucial role of ensuring the strategic acquisition of goods and services necessary for long term growth and operational efficiency. The objective is to optimize CapEx spending and negotiate long term strategic Services which support the operation.
These include but are not limited to Developing and implementing category management plans, sourcing strategies, continuous review and optimization and renewals management in collaboration with legal, site business owners and Glencore supply chain teams.
Minimum qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Management, finance, Mining, engineering or similar
Required Experience
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a procurement role (both goods and services) related to project procurement and contract management in a technical/engineering environment, liaising with clients (external and internal) as well as project managers/execution teams.
Required skills
- Source to Contract process, sourcing strategy development and category management aligned to the business needs.
- Sourcing and contracting for major and SIB capital projects, with expertise in EPCM contracts and project stage-gate methodologies
- Sourcing long term strategic service contracts which support the daily operations such as Security Services, Camp Management, Mining and Drilling Services, Ancillary Civil Services such as crushing, bush clearing road maintenance etc.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data-driven insights to forecast demand, plan inventory levels, and make informed decisions.
- Assess data, technical requirements, and market trends to inform strategic decision-making.
- optimizing processes, potentially through digitalization, and applying best practices in Supply Chain.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with all organizational levels, external contacts, and cross-functional teams. The ability to influence stakeholders is critical.
- Developing and implementing the supply Chain risk management strategies and assisting in managing supplier-related risks.
- knowledge of operational changes to assess total costs and benefits for accurate Return on Investment analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and implement strategic sourcing activities related to Capex spend and strategic long-term Services that optimize spend, improve supplier performance, and mitigate risks within their assigned categories.
- Establish strategies for strategic sourcing teams and set yearly targets for achieving sourcing savings and consolidating the number of suppliers used within any given sourcing category
- Defines the interface between Supply and Business Area owners for strategic Service providers to the site. For project teams ensure EPCM contracts are put in place
- Oversee the entire procurement lifecycle while monitoring and evaluating supplier performance against KPIs
- Drive improvements in supplier quality, cost, performance, and innovation, supported by stakeholders
- Resolve disputes and claims with suppliers working closely with legal and compliance teams
- Deliver robust market intelligence assessments and leverage category and contract expertise within the group to meet long-term business objectives in a safe, reliable, and sustainable manner
- Provide effective supervision to the team, setting performance objectives and providing coaching and mentoring.
- Ensures the effective delivery of training and coaching support across teams ensuring teams have access to training resources and training targets are being achieved for teams and individuals.
- Confirm project activities comply with permits, environmental management plans, waste management and rehabilitation requirements.
- Integrate environmental controls into contract scopes for dust suppression, water management, and biodiversity protection.
- Track environmental KPIs such as emissions, waste volumes, spill incidents and rehabilitation progress.
