Main objectives of the position
Reporting to the Drill Rig Operator, the Drill Rig Operator Assistant is responsible for assisting the Drill Rig Operator in the safe and efficient execution of production drilling activities in accordance with drilling plans, technical specifications, HSE procedures, and Mutanda Mining standards.
The incumbent supports drilling operations through equipment preparation, housekeeping, handling of drilling tools and accessories, and assisting in maintaining the drill rig in good working condition to ensure uninterrupted mining operations.
Minimum qualification
Professional Studies Certificate (A5, A4) or equivalent qualification
Technical training in drilling operations or related fields is an added advantage
Required Experience
Minimum 1 year of experience in mining operations or industrial environments
Previous experience in mining drilling operations is an advantage
Required skills
Good physical fitness and ability to work in demanding conditions
Basic knowledge of drilling equipment and drilling operations
Knowledge of safety standards applicable to open-pit mining operations
Ability to work under pressure and on rotational shifts
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Ability to follow operational instructions and procedures
High level of discipline and commitment to safety
Ability to safely handle drilling tools and accessories
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Drill Rig Operator during drilling operations
Prepare and organize drilling tools, consumables, and accessories required for drilling activities
Participate in drill rig setup, movement, and positioning activities
Assist with positioning the drill rig at designated drilling locations
Clean and maintain drilling platforms and work areas
Assist in conducting pre-operational inspections of the drill rig
Check water, fuel, oil, and other consumable levels as instructed
Participate in lubrication, cleaning, and routine maintenance activities
Immediately report equipment defects, unsafe conditions, or operational abnormalities
Maintain tools, equipment, and accessories in a clean and organized condition
Comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) procedures and standards
Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Participate actively in safety meetings and toolbox talks
Ensure drilling work areas remain safe and free from hazards
Ensure drilling tools and accessories are available to support uninterrupted operations
Support the Drill Rig Operator in achieving production targets
Collaborate with QA/QC and other operational teams to ensure drilling activities meet required standards
Follow instructions from supervisors and operators and maintain effective communication during shift handovers
Comply with Glencore's environmental procedures and MUMI SARL's environmental policy
