Job description.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent– Health, Hygiene, Safety Systems and Improvement, the post holder will lead a team that creates value by enabling health and safety in KCC by:

  • The Health and Safety Advisor will play a critical role in ensuring the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety standards and systems within a mining and processing operation.
  • The primary focus will be on safeguarding the well-being of employees, contractors, and visitors by identifying and mitigating risks, promoting a strong safety culture, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Supporting line management to implement and improve health and safety processes and practices that meet the Health and Safety management objectives (SafeWork).

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

  1. Development and implementation of Health and Safety Standards, Safety management system:      
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  •  Implement improvement of SMS Standards, Systems and Processes
  • Facilitate the development of safety training and communication material in support of objective
  • Review and update Health and Safety procedures, policies, management plans, etc. and ensure all are easily accessible to the business
  • Form part of the investigating accidents, incidents, or near misses involving FHPs to determine root causes and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.

 

  1. Supporting line management to implement SafeWork expectations and objectives:
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits of the FHP requirements at the workplace to identify potential hazards and risks, as well as recommending and implementing corrective actions to mitigate these risks and close the gaps as recommended by the FHP workbooks/ expectations.
  • Work with the site nominated SMEs and Champions and provide training and coaching on the Glencore health and safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Conduct yearly self-assessments audits on the different FHPs requirements, develop and track the actions implementations working with the different GMs, SMEs and champions.
  • Collaborate the management of actions from the audits and conduct regular forums and routines to ensure proper implementation

 

  1. Supporting line management on audits and action management:
  • Conduct regular internal audit at the mining site, identify potential hazards and non- compliance against the standard.
  • Develop and implement action plans to address audit findings and ensure timely completion of corrective actions
  • Collaborate with site managers, supervisors to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Provide guidance and support to the mining business unit on health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze health and safety data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities to enhance safety performance.

 

  1. Health and Safety Improvements and projects:
  • Lead and support health and safety projects aimed at improving health and safety
  • Collaborate with cross- functional teams to identify safety improvements opportunities and drive the projects to address them
  • Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
  • Implement and monitor safety programs, procedures, and initiatives to enhance safety culture and reduce incidents.
  • Provide guidance and support to site managers, supervisors, and employees on safety best practices, procedures, and regulations

 

 

 

Job requirements.

 

Qualifications and experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional certification in health and safety an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management, in the mining industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to the mining sector.
  • Experience conducting health and safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and develop actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven track record of driving safety improvements and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Speak French
